Shooting in the wind

Every day the wind has blown 30-40 mph out of the south and hot. Just to change up a little, one day it blew the same speed out of the north and was cold.
I shoot east to west and early this morning it is out of the south. I'm not a good shot anyway but this will teach you to be humble. I like to try new loads now and then just for fun and today's winner was the 173 grain 358429 over 7 grains Unique in a 357 case. Ran a short string over the chronograph (however accurate it is)
out of my 4" 686 and it averaged 1111 FPS. How I wish for a calm day!

Shooting in the wind sure is an excercise in humility. Our beautiful cast bullets are not necessarily the best wind- buckers...

Rex, What part of the country are you in?
I hate wind, need to know so I can cross it off of places to go.

Lots of wide open spaces out that way Rex. The wind just doesn’t have a reason to stop blowing.

Wind often blows us around enough to impact Our ability to even think about shooting well.

Brad, with this lock-down thing I'll shoot in a hurricane just to get out of the house. Besides it makes a good excuse for poor shooting.

My range is on a mountain! On the no wind days....we have 8 to 10 mph always
Wind flags help also picking the benches near the separating berms help

But you just correct for the constant wind speed, just like at Goodland. Kid came across Nm last week, said it was 45 deg one way, 45 the other way (steering wheel) coming back. GKs went through N. Platt to Cody for scout week but not going to the camp. Adults are admin. merit badges now - mandatory BLM merit badge starting Feb. Required for Eagle. Normal leader is not going as he is in riot gear this month.

My deceased reloading mentor and gun buying enabler lived in Roswell, New Mexico. He said on the first day of Spring he'd put his hat on a windward outside wall and it'd stay there till the first day of Fall.

We were shooting steel targets over the weekend at 1000 and 1760 yards. It can be very tricky trying to figure out what the wind is doing over those distances. Usually it’s several different things.
