just made my first bump die out of a lee bullet sizing die. annealed it , ground and polished id to .4635. i wanted .462 but got a little more. this bump die is for the throat of a ruger #1 45-70 with a bullberry bbl. anyway my question is; do you think its possible to reheat and quench, and, get a smaller id??

I've heard of shrinking auto body metal via differential shock cooling . I doubt that it would do it and if it will it probably works backwards from the mechanical expectations

Yes and no...

Just sayin, I'd work it cold.... then, examine what I learned from that before re heating. But dang, what a great question.

you could get it nitride coated that will generally make them about .001 or just over that smaller.
