Shrooms

As a Mainiac, I'm sure you know that it should be spelled "lawbsta"

I'd never heard of them. Found this. https://www.thespruceeats.com/what-are-lobster-mushrooms-5190483

The article says that they only grow in the wild. Of course, if it is on the internet, it must be true. ;) So, I assume they have found a way to introduce the parasite to mushrooms to produce the lawbsta variant. Or do you have a place in the wild where you have found that they grow?

Hunting wild mushrooms used to be one of my favorite hobbies.
Now, you don`t dare leave your vehicle or it will get broken into or vandalized.
Oh, for the good old days when you didn`t have to lock your house or worry about leaving a vehicle unattended.

Where do you live that this is a concern? Very sad to hear that is the case where you are.

Between trout fishermen, and bow hunters right now we must have seen 10-12 cars, trucks, and SUVs parked by bridges or woodland lanes, during our 95 mile motorcycle ride this afternoon. I don't hear about vehicle break ins. Now trespassing for ginseng, and stealing trail cameras and tree stands, yes that I've heard complaints of. I think the majority of those are conflicts between bow hunters mostly on public land.

Snakeoil, I live in SW Oregon.
With the legalization of marijuana in Oregon there has been a terrible influx of lowlifes to grow here.

Yeah, they built a huge indoor growing facility in Central NY. I see a lot of poor Latinos walking between the farm and the local Walmart which is just up the road. I wonder if crime in the little town they are in has increased. I worked in Latin America for many years. It is a world of have and have nots. No middle class to speak of. The have-not outnumber the haves and hence petty crime is a major problem. They steal the battery out of your car, your spare tire and such. Every house has bars on the windows and a wall around it with broken glass set in the concrete on the top edges of the walls. Miami is getting like that. But since Miami is populated by people from those countries, they don't see anything out of the ordinary. When they were pushing for me to move to Coral Gables to work out of that office, I pushed back hard. They had my friends in that office call me and say I could live in the same gated community that they lived in. My response was "Why would I want to live in jail?". They were all Latinos and hence never got my point.

Sorry to hear about what is going on in your area.

The upside is that the local County Sheriff has been raiding the illegal grows.
100s of thousands of plants and tons, yes tons, of processed pot has been destroyed, along with the hoop houses used to grow, with dozers.
I saw 4 dozers on low beds headed to one raid on my road last month.
This guy is serious about destroying illegal grows.

Locally, the county issues a certain number of growers' permits and taxes their products at a 30% rate. Retailers are permitted and tax, too, in addition to the regular sales tax. The illegal growers and dealers undercut the legal prices which causes the legal growers and retailers to whine to the county. The end result is what a rational person would easily predict -- the Black Market will always prevail.

So, what is the county to do? Locally, the sheriff has made a few raids, but the steep terrain and difficult accessibility of the illegal growth areas, mainly in the Ventana Wilderness and Santa Lucia Mountains, are hinderances.

So, what else is the county to do? Well, in an effort to keep the legal growers and retailers in business, the county supervisors decided to lowers the growers and retailers tax rates, and forgive many tens-of-thousands in unpaid taxes. Lower taxes!?!? Forgive unpaid taxes!?!? Let a Mom and Pop restaurant try that one, because the roach coach parked across the street is stealing their business.

In Oregon, registered and taxed pot/hemp grows are legal and regulated by the state MOLCC. Everything is tracked & logged. There's still a bunch of criminal groups which do illegal grows on public or private lands, who don't want to pay the taxes/permits/regulations for the privilege of growing it.

Here in BC, you can have up to 4 plants for personal use. Still a black market going on. I have never even tried that stuff ----my youngest boy o the other hand----. As with the end of prohibition, still Moonshiners.

About what I figured. The local sheriff gets his ass in a crack because the %@#&*%% government is losing tax dollars. Suitably motivated, ahem, he sallies forth in a righteous frenzy to please the controllers of the budget. Now before I get in trouble with the moderators, I shall sally forth after another cup of coffee. Oh, and I still want a still and not be afraid of going to prison.

L Ross, Growing marijuana in Oregon is very strictly regulated .
The growers that are getting busted are illegal and selling on the black market.

Apparently the "public" has a demand for the product and the gov't finally capitulates but then taxes the hell out of it, thereby makes a financial incentive for those of an entrepreneurial spirit.
