I shot a .084" group with Berger 150s out of mine, I know it shoots. But DANG brass is a bitch to make.

since were talking about it I'm taking a short break from shooting this summer [except for maybe some varmint shooting]
I'm still doing some reloading, just to catch up some older projects.
and I'm still looking for some components i need to fill in some gaps.

but I decided to do as much fishing as I possibly could this summer, and I might even skip the deer hunt this fall if the weather looks good enough to hit the lakes.

i cast and swage the cores.
this squirts out the excess lead and makes them weigh the same, plus it squeezes any extra air [voids] out.

i have been just bumping 8 mauser brass in the xcb die for jacketed loads.
I'm going to get ahold of a bunch more Norma 7.7 X 58 jap brass and re-form them.
the whole process is nothing more than a trip through the die and a trim.
i should have shared that with y'all sooner.

Fiver, I can appreciate the fishing. We don't have anyone fishing around here or I might do likewise. Any time outdoors, especially with family, is good.

Kinda hate to ask a stupid question, especially when I am darned near 100%
certain it is a stupid question. . . . . but. Is there any reason not to make that brass out
of 7x57 brass by just expanding, trimming and fire forming?
I didn't follow the original .30 XCB thread at all closely, but it seems like it was a shortened
.30 cal, based on .30-06 brass, intended to feed well in actions designed for the Mauser
whatever x 57 actions. Seems like the 7x57 would neck up pretty easily, BUT since
a lot of smart folks aren't doing it that way, it has gotta be a stupid question.

SO - who throws the first rotten tomato? :)

That doesn't give enough neck thickness for turning to give snug fitting necks.

No rotten tomatoes. Yet?:)

It's supposed to come out about the same as the 8 mauser plus .010.
we wanted neck length.

OK, got the neck thickness thing for making really carefully fitted
brass for the chamber. .010 length seems pretty close to irrelevant,
but maybe for that last gnat's butt of accuracy.....

I knew that there had to be a good reason not to use such an obvious solution.

it's the difference between your boolit swelling up into an area you don't want it to, and it gliding forward effortlessly [under 30-k psi anyway]

case trimmers and neck turning tools are probably the most mis-used tools in the reloading room.
