So this followed me home.

It is hard to beat a Ruger Mark II for accuracy and durabiility. Four of us owned a Mark II that we traded between us at least two times each. The first owner shot it for Bullseye competition, then bought a High-Standard and kept it for his backup.

When a new shooter needed a Bullseye gun, it was sold to him. He shot it for competition, winnning individual matches at the State matches. He next bought a High-Standard and traded this pistol to the third shooter. When the third shooter needed a new gun, I bought it for my son to shoot. Then we traded it back and forth several times each in the ensuing two decades to finance various purchases.

All told over several decades, this gun probably had 100.000 rounds shot through it. It would still shoot a possible slow-fire 50 yard tareget when that well used.

BudHyett reminds me, I bought a older MK II at the 2020 local gunshow...I recall I've only test fired it...I gotta rectify that.

ANYWAY,
In the 1990s I shot league with a 6 7/8" tapered target model MK II. I shot it so much, that it loosened up a bit. My last year of shooting league, I traded it off and bought a new MK II (slab side Government). The new one was OK, but I wound up missing the old Tapered Target model...just felt more balanced in my hands.

Fast forward to the Local gunshow in Sept 2020.
On the table next to mine, there was a dirty used 6 7/8" tapered target model MK II, just like the one I had. While it was in the original factory plastic box, the box that looked like it had been riding in a pickup box for a decade, on closer inspection, the gun itself was seemingly shot very little, like maybe the guy bought it new 20 years ago, shot a couple bricks through it and never cleaned it. btw, prices of the MK II are currently crazy (like everything else I guess). After the gun sat on the table all weekend, with no interest, I told the guy, I'd trade for $400 worth of ammo on my table (He had $450 on the price tag). We made the deal. I got it home and cleaned it up...It's very tight, as I hoped it would be. Maybe I take it out of the safe today, a post few photos of it.

I'd like to see it Jon. My brother ended up with Dad's Mark II. Sounds about like yours.

So, I looked it up, I guess I bought it at the 2021 show.
It has some holster wear near muzzle and storage wear on Receiver near barrel.

Anyway, here are some photos.

Yep. Same one. I was amazed at how nice and crisp the trigger is on that thing. Very accurate with lots of different ammo too. Thanks for the pics!

If that Mark II came in a plastic box, it's not that old. My mid to late 70s version came in a cardboard box. Gold and Red, IIRC.

My old MK II League gun (1980s vintage) came in Yellow/Black folded cardboard box. Didn't the MK II come out in 1982 ?
Anyway, as to the MK II in the photos, I did say "20 years" ago, being just my guess, that'd be 2002...they stopped making them in 2005.

I always liked the heavier barreled Rugers. The originals that were pretty common in my younger days had that Luger looking barrel, which I think Mr Ruger designed that way, but I never warmed up to them. When I saw my first bull barreled Ruger, then I was happy and the 22/45 made me happier yet. OTOH, my old partner still has his Mk1 that I talked him to buying for something like $120.00 probably 17-18 years back, and he's still tickled with it! To each their own!

Purchased, the Target model because I didn't care for the balance of the bull barreled versions. Too much weight forward, IMO. They didn't offer the Lite version of the 22/45, back then. Now they do and it's just perfect for my intended use.

:headscratch: Guess that's why they make chocolate and vanilla.

My dads "back up" was a Model 1 made in 51-52 era when Ruger went to the 2 piece bolt to save steel. Carried it in a shoulder holster under his shirt or coat depending on temperature.

Just FYI- This thread made me finally get a holster for my 22/45. I wanted one of the Ruger holsters for it, until I saw what they get for them!!! A Triple K will do just fine. I did find a "Ruger Practical Holster", NOS, for my 4 5/8" 45 BH. Yeah, $250!!!!! I knew I should of bought them back when they were new on the market! :headbang:
