Fluke (I caught 2 a d so did my Buddy) and Sea Bass! Both real good eating! The smallest Fluke was almost 21" and that sea bass was about 4#.
Oh man, I've been sick for a week. I had to cancel my shoot, and a fishing trip. Thanks for sharing your success and some good photos. I know nothing about ocean fish, or the ocean for that matter. So are flukes related to Halibut?

Looks like a good time.

flukes grow their eyes on the opposite side of their body from a halibut.
there ya go, you know everything I do about them.

good show today.
the MIA/POW riders done the flag ceremony and then humbly asked for a donation for a sign they want to put up on the Wyoming/Idaho border marking the fact that the state of Idaho is a cheap bastard.
errr, I mean to mark the fact that Idaho officially designated highway 26 [which runs from Oregon to Wyoming] as the MIA/POW highway, but wouldn't ''pay'' for a couple of signs.
I pretty much just emptied my wallet in their little bucket, don't know how much was there, but they got it all.

Waco.... if you don't go fishing in cabo.... you will never know you will be disappointed to catch a twenty pound silver on two lb. Line on the Kenai river in July. ............

Today has been the shits.
Kinda crazy..... very hot ...fire started across the street & burned lots of houses.
We got evacuation orders then the wind shifted.
Been watching two choppers w/water and three twin plane, & one or two twin jet, one quad jet plane dumping retardant all day.

We are super lucky to be able to house our good friend for the night. VERY sure her house is gone.
I was shitting bricks all day trying to decide what to save.
I can't imagine what she is thinking.
VERY tired & finally crashing.0619211825.jpg

Flukes are lucky , whale flipper , events . That's about the best joke I can make for the halibut .
Went on the internet just for the halibut, floundered around for an hour, found oceans of data, in dibs and dabs and in some unusual plaices. The sole purpose of that exercise was not to generate click bait but to prove CW's posts are no flukes.

I used to fish for Halibut off Anacapa island several years back. Was no shortage of them and catching them was fairly easy. The problem was bringing them up without also having a Blue Shark attached to the Halibut. o_O

Stay safe, Mark. I don't know your situation, but making evacuation plans may not be a bad idea. I wish you all the best.

dang man.
on the bright side,,,, you won't have to pull any weeds for a while.

we don't have any fires close, but we got enough in the surrounding areas to know it wouldn't take much to have one.
we generally have a few days of frost coming up in the next week or so before the temps shoot up, but they already done that.
it wouldn't hurt anything to have a good rainstorm roll through, and it would surely help the farmers [and june berries, and the grouse] if we did have one sometime soon.

Yesterday my son-in-law and I did our CCW re-certifications. I know, I know, you don't have to say anything, but at least we have a compliant sheriff.

My live-fire score would've been 100% in the 10 ring if only the Glock 27's front sight had been in focus.* And if the indoor range's lighting hadn't been so poor. And if the instructor's assistant constant hovering over me hadn't been so unsettling, especially because of his greenish-gray painted fingernails and pink hearing protection. And if 15 other people watching hadn't been watching so intently where my shots were hitting. And if the exhaust fan had been turned on so the smoke haze wasn't blurring the target.

Found it interesting how much the muzzle blast from 5.5-grains of WSF has on a 5-yard paper target. The 7-yard target was unaffected.

*Seriously, while all the excuses were real, this was the only valid one.

The 3 to 5 foot blues are plentiful around Anacapa; particularly around Cat Rock.

creosote, looks like you have a beautiful place. Hope and pray that wind directions favor you.

While in Kali we had a few close calls. I remember that feeling of, "what should I load into the truck first, second, third, etc.".

We know two families who had to evacuate during last Summer's River Fire, and two others who were given evacuation notices. One of the families didn't know if their house was safe, or not, till they were given the okay to return -- their house was spared.

Won't get into the reason why, again, but I toured parts of Arizona's Chediski Fire when the ground was still smoking. One area was nothing but rectangles of melted aluminum that had been a large residential trailer park. It's one thing to see pictures of that once was a home, but quite another to actually be there and see someone's life reduced to nothing but ashes and melted metal.

We don't do envy, but if we did and had a list, those who live in forested mountains area would be toward the top.

Had a low tire on Mom's Suburban, so checked and brought it up to spec. Added a half quart of oil, checked other fluids. While I'm doing all this I look up and there's a big doe about 40 yards away checking me out. Soon as I look her way, she casually trots off toward the front of the property.

Original owner did a lot of gardening and had two large Malamutes patrolling the front 4 acres which is fenced. The deer are finally starting to feel a bit less at risk when they come closer to the house. Had another fox checking out our N/E lawn this morning.
