At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Attended the sports award ceremony for the kids last night. Gordy got the Coaches Award in track and the coach noted his training regime involved "chasing sheep"! That got a huge laugh from the crowd! I think he was the sole "farm boy" on the stage. Times have changed.

The front end parts came in for the tractor I mentioned last week. I was griping about the lack of grease fittings that helped let them wear out after 40ish years. The new ones HAVE grease fittings! I call that a good idea.

Oldest boy called yesterday from someplace in New Hampshire. He was in a store with ammo and picked up some of what I need but can't find locally at anything like a decent price. They had lots and lots of 22LR at a fair price, turns out it's limited to 2 boxes of 50 to each customer. Drat!

Last weekend I was asked to make a video and shoot a target with a 22 Rimfire @ 100yards. Today was much to windy to do this... But its the day and time I had. I shot pretty well.

Links in the description of my video and the other guys descriptions as well. If someone would like to join it the "rules" are outlined in Broke Loaders video and links to target is also there.

Im no Poker player, I shoulda Shot a Royal Flush but shot for 4 ACES.

Loaded 150 145gr BO and 75 170gr BO - arm is tired. Fan in garage (china) broke high humidity & temp. Ugh. And put them all in Frontier 125 rnd plastic 225 box. Maybe go shoot tomorrow morn? She's ahead of me 25 to 20 house flies. Darn they must have been eggs in something she brought in, never had more than a couple in the house before. No fly strips for her.
Been using brave browser for a while, changed to Brave search engine today. Really fast and limited tracking!

Good news!

A new 01 FFL licensee is in the area. Though not a brick-and-mortar gun store with display cases (he works out of his fire extinguisher business) he does sales, transfers, consignments, etc. The Chinese flu caused the only true local gun store, and a gunsmith, to call it quits.

The hunt is back on for a Blackhawk .45 ACP/.45 Colt combination, or .45 Colt only.

The 45 Colt might be my favorite handgun cartridge. Too bad they couldn't chamber the earlier Model '92s for it, but alas the rim on the old balloon-head cases was too narrow for an extractor to get a good enough bite to reliably pull the fired case from the chamber.

Boy oh boy, the virus I had kicked my arse. I tried shooting off hand at 80 yards this morning. There were 28 rounds left in a box and I had 10 prairie dogs and ten 4"squares on the rails. My first hint of trouble was when I grabbed my 11 3/4lb. .22 bolt gun from the safe and it felt HEAVY.
By the time I had everything ready to go I was a touch winded and a little sweaty and it was only 70 degrees. Lately I have been averaging 90% knock downs....until today. I have not shot since I felt sick and I was weak. I knock down 15 with those 28 cartridges. I still had the urge to shoot some more, but wasting ammo goes against the grain of this frugal old man.

I spent two hours kneeling yesterday weeding in the garden and today my butt muscles were in full revolt. That's not conducive to good off hand posture either.

When I came in Sue told me the place we buy our annual supply of fresh peas has a fulsome supply. 5# bags fresh, clean, and cold for 10 bucks. We spent the rest of the day driving to get peas for ourselves and some for friends. Then we delivered them before heading home.

Now tomorrow, boy oh boy, I have been waiting for this day for a while. I have not been fishing for 6 weeks and the virus set me back at least a week. Well tomorrow and Friday will be my first time out trolling with planer boards on two large south central Wisconsin flowages, pumped!

Oh just for information. When we came down with whatever the hell we caught we had been out to dinner with out good friends on a Monday evening. 5 days later we started with sore throats, all four of us. All four of us got sick, all with the same symptoms. Well yesterday one of our friends had a previously scheduled Doctor's appt. and asked for a Covid test, came back negative.

I had that same symptom thing a year ago right before the covid hit.
hot-cold-coughing my stomach muscles back into shape- it didn't stop until the final night of too hot-too cold every 15 or so minutes then the fever finally went away and I was just weak for another 6-7 days.

it might rain tomorrow, or maybe Friday.... or not.
it feels humid though.

Just had a Lynx come through the yard, Biscuit gave me good warning. Watched it slow walk up the drive to the shop and disappear behind it. Going to have to keep Biscuit pretty close by for next couple of days. She tree'd one last year, but, I don't like it. Hate the thought of her tangling with one of those cats.

Knocked down a mess of hay. Need to ted that, move some sheep fence, get the lawns mowed, get the trash out of the garage, clean the barn, find tires for the Burb, register and insure another car, rebuild an engine, fix 3 saws, erect an foundation wall, erect the pool, disc out a wagon road, put up my wood shed...wait a second! I think I got too far ahead of myself! One thing at a time...

Been at Tanneycomo lake this week with son and his family and daughters two kids. We’ve done some of the usual Branson activities but the highlights have been evening fishing trips for tail water trout. Boat up to the dam and drift with the current for a mile or two then repeat. We’ve concentrated on jigs to mimick the native sculpin. Using light action spinning gear and 4 lb line. We’ve done pretty well, 14 year old grandson has the big fish so far at 17 1/2” and 2.8 lbs. went up this morning and he caught two over 17 to my one. Told him he wasn’t invited next year

never would have associated table rock with trout fishing...LOL
but then again that's a bit out of my normal path of daily travels.

didn't do much today.
showed the boy how a hoe works, he got so good at it he cut down all the radishes he had growing in his box.
the summer squash seeds are popping up out in the garden, and one container of bean seeds I put in and gave up on just popped up as some sort of squash. [shrug]
guess I will find a spot for them somewhere and see what they are.

Tanneycomo is the old White river between Table Rock lake and Bull Shoals lake. 22 miles of controlled tail race water from the Table Rock dam to the Powersite dam at the upper end of Bull Shoals. The water released through the electric generators averages 48 degrees year round. The Shepard of the Hills Hatchery just below the dam releases somewhere around 75,000 rainbow trout along with a smaller number of browns a year in Tanneycomo. Couple years ago the state brown trout record was broken twice in about 2 weeks on this lake. It’s a very popular hotspot in this part of the country. The upper 3.5 miles of Tanneycomo is designated the Trophy Area. No bait, soft plastic lures or scented baits allowed in the trophy area

Today I acknowledge the 145th anniversary of the Battle of the Greasy Grass aka Little Big Horn . I was forcibly extracated , kicking , and screaming from the most favorable accomodations known to man on the 90th Anniversary . Today marks my 55th orbit of the sun .

Got a new pretty Zippo , 2 new ratchet tie down/tow straps , and $20 .
The 10 yr old straps seem to have wandered off in the last month or so .

I have about a dozen Zippos , still all American made , so claims the slip sheets . Nope never smoked , carried one hunting for many years never had to use it , yeah they leak , I like the lit smell it takes me to a different time and place .

The doc told me yesterday I've survived the Rona but if I expect to keep on I need to give up sweet tea , Dr Pepper , and biscuits and gravy . The rest of the food guide gets pretty boring if I throw out the high sodium , low/no carb , and unsalted protein ........ Little steps ......

Got calls and messages from my co-birthday ladies , and my girls this morning first thing off . Ms works tonight the girls are off to Mom's ........after careful review it looks like I will destroy the diet list tonight and watch several episodes of Star Trek or maybe rewatch Indy ........won and lost in the pits with almost no driver input .
