Well wife got muscle relaxers for her back. Sleeping like a baby.
Fellow that was messed up in the explosion-fire a while back,(Alex) is coming back to work light duty, Soon.
Alex may be coming to the lab. At least he is pushing for it. That would be great for all of us. 50% of what we do is light duty. It will take a month to train him, by that time he should be able to come on full duty . So it would get him back to work, away from the critical areas, and heat, for the most part. Be a kind of PT for him.
Hopefully the lab, specifically me, gets some closer to normal hours. Plus I will get to work opposite of someone who knows how to work hard.

Very warm humid day & Now we are under tonado watches until 7 PM. The next 2 days will get progressivly worse ..when the highs are going into the mid 90's!
Was able to get some work done outside on the pool front....Siphoned off the last amount of siphonable water then used a dip bucket to get it down to where a hot day lik today and the next two day will evaporate the last amounts....too bad the storm that came thru at 3 pm deposited water on top of the cover again!. Will be playing this game the next few days! I may win or I may not !
Had to make a trip out to get new pump hoses , clamps and other things I need to open it up this weekend!
My wife always wanted one of those stupid "Duck" chlorine dispensers! Our original normal dispenser finall fell appart after 20 years! So I splurged and got her her Duck Chlorine dispenser;)!
Just before 3 pm I had to do a mad dash to try to put all my 5 gallon potted plants some where save ( plus the other small potted seedings)
I got totally drenched to the skin! Storm happened faster that the radar showed!

Well we just lost the last of our Poplar trees. We had seven! They were huge, 2 0f the trunks measured 16" across!
When my wife was a child, She and her sister used to walk across the yard / field ....to have picnics it it and play.
The little section at the end of the property was like a glade.....& it had beautifully fine grass that was lighter green than average grass.
The seven trees were named the 7 Sisters....Once my wife started learning "science" in grade school...She named them! That little glade became our property, when her Dad gave us 1/4 of the 4 acre property We chose the area that contained the special glade!
So timespan: those trees started growing about late 1950's and the last survivor scummed about 2019 and fully fell today!

Had ta fix my day time running lights AGAIN! The durn bulb has popped out twice now!!!

If ya dont know GM DRL's... They only work in daytime, in Drive (or 1,2&3) NOT in reverse and NOT if you put emergency on.

They also auto turn off when head light come on. (Also auto)

Well the wife took my flash light from seat and tossed it on the dash... Does it every timee she getin in my truck and I ask her every time where do she think that would go if we had a accident!?! NOTHING goes on dash!!

Well she did it again last night and it migrated all the way to the windshield and over the sensor for lighting.... Blocking it enough for the circuit to think it was dusk.

I pulled bulbs. Nope
I went and bought new bulbs NOPE
I FOUND new bulbs... NOPE
I adjusted settings... NOPE
I PULLED BULBS from signals... NOPE! Then I knew it was not the bulbs. Getting quite aggravated cause I gotta get in and out of a tall truck with a bad knee like 15 times... (Yes, sitting here with ice telling you all the story...)

Frustrated, sitting in pass side reading about how the DRL system works, I see the light on the dash as I read to put a brite light on sensor to test!!! BINGO!! I remove the light, in about 15/20 sec DING driving lights come on!!

O M GOODNESS, sometimes I could just... Not wanting ta start a argument... I threw that light in the tool box.

Well, spun a rod bearing in the Tahoe this morning on my way to work with the trailer in tow. Limped it back home and swapped out for the Sequoia, just got home safe and sound with both of my tool boxes. Two spun rod bearings in a week, what gives? Gotta drag Dad's jeep out from in front of the shop with the wife's suburban, nurse the Tahoe out of the way, back in with the trailer and unload my boxes, then shove the jeep in there to pull the pan on it and see what can be done, after that (likely a long block) I'll rinse and repeat with the Tahoe although I think all it needs is to have some fresh bearings rolled in and the oil pump pickup tube seals replaced.

There is a street that connects the three local inter-connected towns, and along a section that follows the curvature of the adjacent bay there is a tunnel that is about 200-yards long. Shortly after the newer cars enter the tunnel their automatic head and tail lights come on, and a while after they exit it the lights go off. Kind of a rear-view mirror white and windshield red strobe light show, as the various cars' lights cycle on and off.

Automatic on-off head and tail lights -- what'll they think of next? Self-driving cars?

opportunity... crate engine Bro.
LS-3 has a nice ring to it.[the 2 would be a like for like though]
time and warranty [a real actual warranty not one of those 30 minute ones] if you can find one of those ASE type dudes to do the work.

lets see snow hail rain sunshine wind no wind some sleet,, pick one we had it today.
making an attempt to split some seriously root bound and wind beaten artichokes, i had to kind of just close my eyes and pull the roots apart.
i wouldn't have bothered but they have some size to them so if they come around i should get some decent chokes off them.
i'm gonna try to keep a couple of them in the green house this winter and see what happens, i don't know if i can keep 32 or better or not when it's 25 below without some serious effort, or whether it's worth the electricity.

yeah, then I'd have to dump $1500 worth of upgrades into the transmission so it would live more than a week, and add a Zexel limited slip so it wouldn't just go around in circles leaving every red light and stop sign, prolly drop the gears to 3.73 or 4.11, get a wider set of wheels and new tires to match, replace all the front and rear control arm bushings with poly, replace the worn-out steering box, fix the peeling paint on the hood, and still only have a $3K truck. However, I am seriously contemplating putting a stroker kit and tune in Dad's TJ, for a 4.0L I-6 it has always been gutless (like have to grab 4th on every little hill and still lose speed if there's a headwind). Or maybe LS swap and a Holley Sniper, can get a junkyard engine and the whole plug-and-play FI setup for less than a rebuilt long block, although fitting that SM-465/NP-205 combo I got sitting in the shed would be a pain in the ass, and it would chronically overheat.

Road trip . Bad day for Ms . Twisties and deep canyons don't make her very happy . Shortest/fastest took us past "the grand canyon of the Ozarks " .......yeah so going home a different way . I did kind of want to stop in Who'da thunk it Arkansas though ya know just for the sign . Easily amused by the little things am I .

Man a little shooting is good for the soul I think .

Explaining .
A couple of times a yr a small group from a mildly opinionated bunch of blue blood Americans that don't manage the thin skinned sorts well get together for a long weekend often in one another's yards for something loosely resembling a modernized rendezvous . Ok fine it's an excuse for a boys weekend with guns , smoked meats , campfires , burned coffee , and laughing at one another .
In spite of all that it's a fun weekend that sometimes runs a full week . In it's original form it was BP driven by the 49'-60' Colts and 58' Remingtons but also the assorted muskets and rifles before them . Some pretty cool stuff has shown up like OM unmolested Brown Bess's and Fowler's come to mind . Slowly we have drifted away from the core and now it's more a run what you brung in sneakers .

I dug around and as bad as it sounds I couldn't find anything I had lots of ammo for that I really wanted to shoot . After some digging I decided to take Dad's Win 67 and 67A , since I don't think there's been 50 rounds through his 917 Marlin 17 mag so it is out . The 1858 brass Army 44 , the Dragoon , and a "frontier rifle" . We arrived late in the day so the shananagans had begun already . I did get the 917 out . What an unimaginative boring rifle ....... The "sweet 17" scope adds to the boringness of the rifle . Almost any reasonably skilled shooter should be able to shoot this thing pretty well . A quick zero check and and a pop can full of water was poofed at 100 .

Shot a couple of others 22s also . We have all day tomorrow :) .

I am sitting here in front of the computer at 2AM.
My back hurt too much to sleep.
Funny, I can get up a sit for a while and it will quit hurting.
I am going to put a pork butt on the pellet grill early this morning for a friend.
Got some weeding done in the garden and some weed eating done around the yard yesterday.
Maybe that`s the reason for the back ache.

Popple gets to a certain size, like Basswood, and rots out from the center. Just the way it is. They are pioneer tree's. Still, I know the feeling of having something you've grown used to and like suddenly be gone. I suppose it's the cycle of life.

Smart man. It has to be their idea to get done. Seems to run across the full spectrum of femaleness IME.

I've read and seen some work done on the inline 6 Jeep engine. They will produce some HP with the right parts, but I don't know about longevity. The little Buick odd fire V6 Jeep used back in the 60's was a snappy little rig in a CJ too. She has the 6 and an auto in her Wrangler but the one previous, which still sits behind the machine shed, had the 4 and the 5 speed. Gutless doesn't begin to describe it. Might as well be the old flathead out of a Willys. My thought is they have so much junk on them to run auxiliary stuff, are so leaned out for smog req'mnts, and the vehicle itself is so much, much heavier than the old Willys that it all adds up to no guts. The 6 is worlds better, but there's still all the extras. She adores her Wrangler, but the Explorer gets much better mileage. Again, I think that goes to weight and aux stuff combined with choking the engine down. I suppose the days of "souping up" anything are about done anyway. A small diesel! Now there's what the Wrangler needs!

Bright, warm and breezy here today. Overslept a bit today as I couldn't seem to sleep last night. No biggie, my list of top 10 zillion things that gotta get done didn't go anywhere! My horse time lasted about 2 hours yesterday. Boy they can be stubborn. Didn't make a lot of progress, but I will keep at it. Re-established contact with a fairly local lady who has a Haflinger stud that is reputed to be the draft type I'm looking for. I hope to take a look at him next week. She's sending me his pedigree, must be she thinks that matters to me. Conformation is what I want. The Haflinger was developed as a large, small horse size, draft pony. We're not talking a Shetland here, we're talking a 14+ hand "pony". They carried and pulled the Austrian army's material all over the mountains, plowed the fields, pulled the wagons, etc. They look like a small Belgian, They also carry the pony trait of living to 30+ years and working most of them, being such easy keepers they get fat on nothing and being way smarter than the people who get around them. But when they came to America, the horsey types immediately started breeding all the good out of them and started trying to turn them into a Arab! I want woods horses, not a flashy little jumper for a 12 year old. Anyway, I will continue to work on them.

Figured out the JD 300 riders problem. The charging system is inop. Low battery means weak spark! Duh. I think the stator is likely shot and the wiring is made up of multiple butt splices, Scotch-locs, dead ends and about a sleeves worth of electrical tape. But hey, I only gave like $100 for this thing! Just have to remember to put the charger on the batt after I mow.

This years gardening experiment "Green Garlic" is a success!

I read about this last fall. I always have extra/leftover garlic in the spring.
Hardneck garlic has a long shelf life, but gets more bitter as it ages, so at
some point in late winter, I always quit using it in my cooking for that reason.

While hardneck garlic is typically planted in the fall in cold climates, like MN.
These (for green garlic harvesting) are planted these in Spring, just as the frost
goes out. The plan was to harvest them like Green Onions in May, while the
greens are still tender.

I planted the smallest cloves in the bunch, figuring they will have the longest
harvest window. I've been picking a few each day for the last several days.
The garlic flavor is quite mild. Funny thing is, the greens have stronger
garlic flavor, than the white area. They work great chopped up in a omelet
or soup ...or in tacos or burritos. Anywhere you'd use green onions.

FYI, as hardneck Garlic matures, the greens become as tough as palm leaves,
almost uncuttable with a standard kitchen knife.

Lastly...
The roots are extensive, strong and deep, so I needed a dandelion puller
to harvest them, a must for getting them out of the ground in one nice
looking piece. Also, I planted them too close to use a hand spade.

The eye glasses ping-pong game, between the optometrist and Costco is over. So as to not spend an hour composing the game's end, I'll just say that I'm keeping the two-year-old prescription and glasses.
