California's Central Coast Amid The Insanity
Wednesday had the truck aligned and tires rotated, but it needs new tie rod ends. Yesterday made a few-items Costco run for a short-distance, Wednesday-to-Wednesday, pre-and-post July 4th get-away. Today, I'll drive the motorhome home, from the airport storage lot, so I can wash it and we can start loading stuff.

Busy morning at the birdfeeder. Fox, then squirrels, then a largish doe, doe hung around for 15 minutes; then more squirrels, then the fox back again. That was all in a span of 45 minutes.
The twin fawns are still living here. 3 weeks now I think. See them every day.

Went to the sawbones this morning. Have an ear infection. I think the last time I had one of those I was 3 or 4 years old. Triggered by allergies I suspect. Plantar Fasciitis is finally diminishing.

Need to get busy and put a new transmission computer in Mom's Dodge Caravan and get it cleaned up so we can give it to College Boy.
While at the Formula SAE competition at Michigan Raceway, people from Honda Performance Development/Honda Racing asked him to send them a resume. I'll try not to get my hopes up on that, but it might be a good place to start his engineering career.

Best buddy in HS (we worked on a lot of junker hot rods together) went with Roush (60s) after his intern for GM engine course. Then to Ford and then to EPA (ugh). Worked well for him.

we got the rinky dink and barfum barely circus coming into town tuesday [who has a circus on tuesday night?]
Littlegirl got some tickets after i found them half price at city hall.
i wasn't planning on going but figured the G-Kid's would get a kick out of it, probably get a greasy corn dog and some stale popcorn out of the deal for my trouble.

spent some time cutting dead vines out of the Tayberries this morning.
think of them as raspberries that grow every which direction and get about 10' long, they also drag and grab onto any and everything within 3"s of them.
the little needle sharp thorns will dig and work their way through a glove or light flannel jacket into your skin if you give them a chance.
once they get in there they fester up and you keep on finding them by slightly brushing against anything, only you can't see them to pull them out.

fixed the wood cutter stand [halverstand?] with some more scrap wood then used it to cut a couple of chunks of cedar, before hauling it over to the Kid's place so the SIL can cut up those tree chunks from that tree we cut/dug/chopped out earlier this year.

then i tore their old garage door apart and built a 9' long garden box out of it, kinda ugly but it'll hold dirt and fits right in with the pallet fence i built around the dirt spot next to it.
the grass and dirt i took out of there will fill the box nicely i'll top it with a couple of bags of potting soil and cover it up

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Some more truck maintaince... tail pipe rusted iff where it was welded to muffler two years ago... Guess the guy didnt wanna waiste $$ on stainless wire for stainless pipes...It rusted where he welded, pipes are all mostly untarnished...

"Driving" bulb fell out of socket again. DONE with that crap!! New socket picked up on my way home today.
What is a "driving bulb"?

The weld story reminds me of a tale I heard in Okinawa back in the early 80's. A local brewery built some large tanks. Welded construction of course, and all the material was stainless. Problem was that the welders, while they used stainless filler metal, used carbon steel wire wheels for clean up. All those little bits of brush embedded in the stainless rusted. Result was the tanks were useless, had to be torn down and the okinawan beer supply was in jeopardy!

Sometimes if you put some good duct tape over the invisible thorn/piece of glass or metal it will pull the little devil out when removed.

Oldest boys S10 crapped out in Albany. His girlfriend, The Angel, drove her clapped out and totally unreliable Chebby down to get him so he can clean out the apt he leased last fall. Trusting souls! Anyhoo, someone is going to have to drive him back to Albany Sun night to look at the S10...and I'm not looking forward to that 9-10 hour round trip...at night!

My 05 GMC 2500 with the 6.0 gasser seems to be suffering from what I found out is a common problem- collapsed or at least not working right lifters! I don't understand this one. GM has been using very reliable hydraulic lifters for what? 60 some years?!!! And somehow they managed to screw that up?!!! It explains a lot of the nagging issues I've been having. Remedies run from an oil change to oil change with ATF to spraying carb cleaner down the push rods to pulling the lifters through the bore to a total engine rebuild/replacement! All I know is it's an on again/off again thing. The truck sat for several years before being revived I was told, so it sounds reasonable. Of course, it can also wipe out a cam, so I gots to do something.

Amazingly enough, the Burb sold!!! Local bus driver said it looked like the perfect winter beater. We came to an agreement that I felt was very good for me, but I didn't have high expectations. A win!

Changed the pups food and some other stuff. He's looking better already.

I got around to working on the pressure washer that i picked up at the junk yard. Oil was good but the spark plug had only a lite spark. I picked a plug up from W.W. tested it out. Much better spark. Poured a couple of cups of gas in the tank. Second pull on the starter rope and it purred like a kitten. And sprayed water like it was supposed to.
I got some good advice on You Tube. When starting a PW keep the trigger pulled. Otherwise it builds up pressure and causes some starter rope breakage.

Having a gob of meat in the smoker. Probably a couple of Crown and Peppers later .

I have officially completed my 55th summer solstice and 56 th orbit of the sun . Kind of a melancholy birthday . Nothing wrong pain free gluttony as a reward for another successful turn around the block .

Grilled a massive T Bone last night. At least a full pound.
It was big enough to feed my wife and myself.
Summer weather finally arrived. 100* today 105* tomorrow.
That sounds like a good excuse to go to the coast .
I did move a bunch of fir wood from the wood pile to the lean-to at the back door of the shop this morning while it was still cool.
Ready for next winter. I need to get some hardwood now.
Mowed a bunch more of the out lying grass. Maybe it will stop growing now that the hot weather is here.
If I only water the immediate lawn it cuts down on the mowing.
