Got a call from my excavator today. The engineers staked my lot and determined the elevation. The 100 year flood level is 378' above sea level and the law requires you build 2' above that at 380". My building site is 382.5' - 383'. Back in 1937 the Ohio flooded, cresting at 383'. The downtown had 2' of water in the streets. By the time they do a little grading and sloping and level the pad it will be about 383.5' with 4" of concrete slab poured on top of that. Won't even need to bring any dirt in, just gravel for the road and parking lot. If we ever get flooded a whole lot of other people will be in a world of hurt long before we are.

Looks like I might have gotten a little break, this phase might come in under budget. The excavator is going on a vacation cruise next week but he said he will be ready to start the week after that. Looks like an April groundbreaking.

Shooting bows N. of Richmond with the youngest today. He lives in Fredericksburg. We went to dinner last night downhill from the "sunken road" rock wall about 100 meters or so,bout midway..... whilst waiting for table, walked the road.

Going for donuts and java before shoot..... age and treachery gentleman, age and treachery, bwahaha. Get them folks all sugared and caffeined up...... my pulse rate being mid 40's has certain benny's.

Then going to Morton's BMW,famous old motorcycle dealer in Fredericksburg.Snagging a battery for my 2000 KRS.... am looking forward to riding a bit. The BRP ( Blue Ridge pkwy) is almost in our backyard,so will enjoy that.

Mower? I ain’t even seeing green yet. We have at least 3 weeks before a mower is even a thought. Probably a month before we need to really mow.
Neighbor still has snow on the side of the house that doesn’t get sun.

Ah life on the frozen tundra. I guess mowers last a lot longer when ya only use them a couple of times year huh?

Can’t say? I don’t even mow what little grass we have. The wife does that. Take like 10 min to mow it all.
I would prefer to mulch it all and plant something not needing to be mowed, pruned, or weeded.

No cement, wife would want it shoveled in the winter.
A nice rock over appropriate weed barrier comes to mind. Give it an annual pre emergent treatment and all should be fine.

Did just that around the perimeter of new garage build. Used a 4'x100' roll, under crushed rock.

more snow last night here too, only good thing about it is it's holding temps just above freezing so the puddles look like grey Slurpee's.
debating on whether to start some of the seeds for the garden or wait another week or two.
having not done this before up here, and knowing how the weather is it's a tough decision to make, one week one way or the other means the difference between a full grow season and re-planting after the frost kills everything.

Even in southern California, most vegetables you plant prior to May 1 just "Sit there" without growth. Carrots and potatoes are the exception to that rule, but just about everything else stays dormant until May 1. Coachella and Imperial Valleys you can start up now, and maybe around Yuma--but I didn't start soil prep around here until mid-April, about the time the lawns woke up.

waco, glad your Mrs. is home; best place to recuperate. I quit smoking 22 years ago.

Took younger son to doctor. His asthma is causing trouble. Pulmonologist is next.

Picked up College Boy for spring break. He aced his physics exam and is sure he scored an "A" on his math, chemistry and chem-lab exams.

An excellent shoot.... I being the idjit left my bow at home. Shopdog got dropped off at vet to get her tubes tied so was a touch preoccupied, just before leaving....

But not to worry.... youngest had a bow I built for him 5 or so years ago which needed to get out and stretch its legs. 20190323_125641_resized.jpg
