Got up at 6:00, fed me and Albert (the cat), started loading a bisque load in the kiln (I am a potter). Once loaded I candled for an hour (warmed the load), then started fireing. About 3 hrs to bring it to temp, and another 3-4 hrs
to bring it to cone 06 (about 1800 degrees F). Corn here is about 7-8" so far, and ought to keep the farmers happy.
Will set up to cast when kiln shuts off. Want to cast about 500-600 of something. Probably 9MM's. Ran 8-900 Lee 105 gr. .358's day before yesterday, sized lubed with Bll. Fine little paper killing bullet out of 38Sp.

Got my little H&R 300 BO back from the Gunsmith (Tim Malcolm) yesterday that he re-chambered to a 7.62 x 39 and I refit it with an optic and plan on getting it on paper today. Already shot it to make sure the ammo I loaded while waiting for its return would chamber and to check the distance to the lands. Really surprised in how little recoil my 110 V Max over IMR 4198 generates. Going to really like this one. Tim even lapped the bore; great service and workmanship.

Fished for bait for the striper season again today. Bad day, only caught 3 mackerel from the bridge but, out of 7 other anglers, only one other, caught one. Tried a new trick that might have helped to catch two of the three macs. When I caught the first one, I tossed cut up pieces of cooked spaghetti into the water for chum and caught a double on the next cast. I'll feel comfortable when I get 300 macs in the freezer and at this point, have 219. I really missed mackerel fishing and most of the striper season last year due to breaking my wrist when I fell down turkey hunting in May of 2017.

Waco the wife and I will be there in 5.
Bret4207 we are so remote. There is only 1 S Q dealer in easy driving distance, and their price on the lowest grade machine is 1000$. And there is no way the wife is spending that kind of bucks. We ended up at Home D, with there interest free 12 mo. for an LG
Today it drizzled all day. So naturally i started the casting pot up and cast some MP359-640, And spent the later part of the day baking bullets

I bedded some new Leupold double-offset bases on my Model 70 this morning (still waiting on rings to arrive), then tore into the Mossberg MVP to inspect the bedding, polish the bolt and raceways, and lubricate it. Also pulled the factory scope bases to degrease, bed, and retorque them, then installed a brand-new Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 scope with some ridiculously overbuilt Warne rings from the spare parts drawer. Took the wife and baby for supper in town, ran a couple errands, now I'm procrastinating a cleanup of the gun room so I can make room for the RCBS dipper pot that's been sitting in a box for several weeks now. Also need to shorten the handle on my replacement Rowel ladle and rub some BLO on the wood. What I REALLY need to do is get busy on my shooting shack, at least get some posts in the ground and a roof on it, it's been around 100 every day with no clouds and looks like it probably won't let up until October, so if any shooting is to be done this summer, particularly with open sights, I'm going to need a roof. Electricity, walls, and AC too if time/money permits.

Went to Ashley Kberlinski (curator of the firearms museum at Cody, WY) lecture at our local museum. We are finishing up a one year showing of most of our firearms, the first time in over 50 years. The public has been enthusiastic about the showing and lecture was interesting on how firearms are going to be displayed in the 21st century. Then out for cheeseburgers and fries with the shooting friends.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Spent the entire day interior painting, after getting the horses back in from where some drunk ( I hate drunks) drove through my fence over night. I mean THE WHOLE DAY. Got all but 5-6 foot of trim done when my shoulder gave outabout 5:30PM. Boy did chores, I sat on couch, smelling of Ben Gay and watching "Peter Gunn".

I think every high school band in the 1960's played the theme from "Peter Gunn" at least a million times.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
Also need to shorten the handle on my replacement Rowel ladle and rub some BLO on the wood.

I never did get around to posting the pics of my "shortened" #2 Rowell. I needed the handling characteristics of a shorter handle, but when I do my big melts, rendering down scrap to reclaim alloy, I need a longer handle. So I did the first thing almost all of us do when we get something new, I took my (then) new ladle apart. I found the handle is hollow, extending about 2/3s of the way back. This made it simple, I had a threading die with the same diameter and pitch as the original handle threads, so I extended the threads to allow me to shorten the stem length by simply screwing the stem (shaft, wahtever :)) deeper into the handle. Now my Rowell can be any length I want it to be. The shortened length is roughly 14 inches from the front edge of the ladle to the very end of the handle, with a functional length of 9 inches from the front of the ladle bowl to the inside edge of the handle. Now I can use it short for casting, or run it out to full length for smelting, rendering, whatever...
Apologies for not resizing the pics. Technical difficulties, you know.
