so waht ya doin today?

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Spent a good deal of time on the road yesterday. That cuts into work time in a big way. Did get the hyd cyls mounted back onto the little crawler. One fitting was a 90 that needed to be a 45, so I picked that up in town. Really don't understand why some folks do what they do in making repairs. A 90 was just the wrong fitting and cranked a hose over at a bad angle. Must have been one of those "temporary" repairs that morphs into a permanent fix. I did get the garage/shop picked up. That's always a feel good when it's done type of thing. Grasses are getting more and more mature but we have another week of wet weather forecast. Not good at all for hay quality and there is a lot of crops not in the ground. I don't know if any oats got put in this year locally. If not, and with the corn not going in, feed will be wicked high this winter.

On a less positive note I am going to the Md tomorrow to verify my initial diagnosis of a hernia. No real pain right now but I will likely have surgery sooner than later just to be done with it.

Good luck at the MD. Surgery is outpatient. Had it done twice. This past January, I had a redo of the initial surgery, done in 2014. Worst thing is the restrictions on lifting, for months on end.

Today I went to their office and bought the tank outright. I can now shop around for the cheapest propane cause that place sure wasn't. Their current price less fees and taxes is $1.999, today for 47.1 gallons I paid $128.48 or $2.73 per gallon including fees & taxes. Another local company where Winelover gets his propane is currently $1.49 a gallon, I don't know what fees if any they tack on but 50 cents a gallon sure adds up when buying 300 or 400 gallons at a time.

Eight point five percent sales tax is the only other charge added to the $1.49/gallon cost, from the company I buy my propane from.

I asked them when there yesterday just what is a fuel reclamation fee? She stuttered and couldn't really explain it and finally said it's just what they call it. I replied so then it's nothing more than a way to pick the customers pockets?

Yeah, but your a slow learner. ;)

Not a matter of learning. I wanted to buy the tank when I had it put in. My banker had other ideas. I had just gotten back from a rather expensive 2 week vacation when I bought the generator and paid for it's installation. By renting the tank to get it put in I had only to pay for the fuel. I now own the tank and I'm fairly certain they understand where they can put their fuel reclamation fee and service fee.

usually August is the best month to go down and contract a per gallon price for the year.
then you'll pay the same per gallon all year even if it goes up/down.

oil is bought the same way.
a negotiated contract is usually fixed in for X gallons for X dollars per gallon, or X dollars per gallon for X number of months with X amount per month delivered.
sometime this works in the sellers favor and sometimes in the buyers favor.
I know when oil crashed to around 20$ a Barrel a few years back, much of the oil from the Bakken was still selling on contract for $90 sumthin [about 2.20$ a gallon] with 6 more months to go on contract.
the poor buyer got hosed on that deal since it was an open ended volume deal [they said they'd take all they could get at that price] and the sellers turned up the wick on the pumps.

The reclamation fee is for taking back the 1% of fuel. You didn't think they'd short you 1% for no charge did you?

I think that they think it's a cute term for picking the pockets of their cash cows. Gouging is another accurate definition. If anyone is interested this fine upstanding propane company is Amerigas. When I had the tank installed it was from a smaller local company which Amerigas has since bought out and I have since given the one finger goodbye wave to.

I may be all wet here? But I recall the trash pickup company started charging a extra fee something like a fuel reclamation fee, I believe they called it a fuel surcharge. That was back in 08 or 09 when Gasoline first jumped over $4 a gallon. Their explanation was they needed to recover that extra money they were spending for delivery of service. Funny thing is, they are still charging that fee today when Gas is $2.50, as well as a couple years ago, when Gas was as low as $1.99 a gallon.

Have to go to a viewing for my shooting buddy , Ed's wife this evening. She passed away this week ( she had been sick for a number of years)
Not looking forward to this because he now has lost his son and his wife just over the past 10 months!

Those are never fun Jim. Truly one of the things we must do in life even though we dislike it immensely.
The older I get the more I attend and it still is something I dislike.
Respect for the friendship we shared makes me keep going.

Spent the day making sausage. 16# of chorizo, and 16# of smoked andouille. Everything cleaned up and put away. Strawberry shortcake for supper, feet up in new recliner, bourbon and ice in a sweaty glass.

finished up out back, then decided to go get the rest? of the pressure treated lumber to finish off the walk through pergola at the garden entrance [siiigh and I forgot the lattice I needed]
oh well next trip.

did remember the other little things I needed [like the hose repair kit] and managed to swing by sportsmans warehouse and pick up a bag of 300 Savage brass.
kind of odd they had Winchester cases, but no Hornady, and it was 3$ cheaper for 50 cases to boot.
I only grabbed 50 cases then blew the rest of the money I had allotted on some stuff to tie up more of those tube Jigs I was using last trip.
found some smaller flashier rubber to make the back end with, and some pearl grey marabou instead of white and grabbed the last 2 packs of each they had.
