Saved it, too.

I knew my maternal grandmother had twin brothers, but didn't know till yesterday that one of them of died of the Spanish flu while onboard ship returning from the Great War.

No interesting anecdotes today.
I'm just trudging along with exercises mixed with rest sessions inside the house.
It's down right hot and humid outside here in MN. 2 good things about that, it keeps me from over eating so I don't allow my body to overheat, as well as, keeping me inside the house, so I don't start doing some gardening or garage tinkering, and end up doing something stupid, so as to create a interesting anecdote LOL.
With that said, there is a bicycle out in my garage that's calling my name.

Thanks for keeping us updated on your boring and uneventful recovery from major surgery, Jon. Boring and uneventful = GOOD NEWS! Keep it up and don't do anything stupid!

We're not far behind Houston.
My wife's brother and SIL both had to be tested last week because co-workers testers positive!
We've had no personal contact with them for 2 months, so we're okay.
Texas Governor closed the bars, so that should help.

Living in Nevada all my life , and a lottle bit of tongue in cheek ......
I don't understand why they want to close the only social halls that serve human consumption safe disinfectant .

I do but there's still a logic component in there that makes a great argument for keeping them open .

Daughter co-worker called in, said she thought she had it. Boss didn't make her get tested or anything so daughter turned in notice. Don't blame her a bit. My understanding, gal would come in. no mask and 'visit' with everybody. Realtor so lots of 'contacts'. Kinda like going to a bar, don't know most people you chat with.

All my shooters were gone by 1pm. Everything, well almost everything is cleaned, and or put away. Lots of lead launched. A lot of bull was shot too.
I put a dry rubbed 9 lb. venison hind in my smoker Saturday for our main course for Supper. It got done way ahead of time, but I wrapped in tin foil and then 1/2 hour before serving I put it in a very hot gas grill. Turned out wonderful.
This is the last shoot I host for the year. I figure the prep, actual shoot weekends, cleanup, and tear down amounts to about 5 weeks of time spent on the two shoots. Now I do get other things done on those days, but there sure is a lot of work to host a match.
Because most of the shooters were not prepared to shoot 350, and 440 yards, we did not include those distances in the scored shoot. I think I had 4 guys join the 1/4 mile club. Three of them shot my rifle and ammo, one shot his rifle with ammo I loaded for him. I am learning that my initial foray at 440 on a windless evening was a lot easier than shooting cast loads at 1,600 fps with any wind. This morning we had a fish tailing wind in a valley and it was a great learning experience.

Easing of house arrest has started the tourist invasion. My Sunday morning retirement side job route takes me past the local Embassy Suites and its parking lot was just shy of full. Can't really blame people for wanting to get away, because we will be doing the same come Tuesday.

Cast some 454190s. Man, that single-cavity likes to run hot.
No gun, yet, to know its size-to dimensions, but the fatter than nominal .457" bullets easily size down to .452" (no .454" sizer die).

Wish I could have been there to help, eat, and shoot, or at least help eat and shoot :p
That would have been great!
Thursday lunch was bbq pulled pork sandwiches and sides. Thursday supper was chicken enchilada soup. Friday breakfast, fresh home made baking powder buttermilk biscuits, with fresh made sausage gravy, served with a runny fried egg on top if desired. Lunch was grilled buffalo and high land beef burgers and sides. Supper was all pot luck appetizers. Saturday morning was oatmeal/peach bake. Lunch was home made Sloppy Joes and sides. Supper was the smoked venison hind, cheesy baked potatoes, baked beans, home made frozen lemon pie. This morning to get people's bellies filled for their drive home was skillet slop, green pepper, onion, cubed ham, left over cheesy potatoes, cheese, pico de gallo, and eggs all mixed together in a 14" cast iron skillet.
There are a lot of empty beer cans/bottles in the recycling, and rye, bourbon, and Tennessee whiskey bottles are severely wounded. G&T's to ward off scurvy and malaria.
Guns and scopes were bought and sold. Lead was traded soft for hard.
Some of the firearms shot were, 03 and 03A3 Springfields, a Remington 722 also in 30-06, .308s in Remington 700's, a rebarrelled Springfield, and an M1A. A pre-war German sporting rifle in 9.3x57. Two Contenders, one .357 Herrett, and one .32-20. Two Winchester 1892's, one .25-20, one .38-40. Three Remington Model 25 pumps, two in .25-20 and one .32-20. There was a Remington Model 14 1/2 in .44-40 with Brit proof marks. A Winchester .351 made it out of the truck but was not fired. A rebuilt Remington Rolling Block in .45-70. One of the 03's is a 1920's free rifle made for 300 yard international shooting. Double set triggers, long slide Lyman 48 receiver sight, a Winchester A-5 scope, palm rest, hooked butt plate. Oh yeah there was a Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 actioned Palma? rifle rebarrelled with Krieger barrel in .308 with a 16X Unertl scope. I know I'm over looking some thing.
This was an eclectic group of Scoundrels. Corvus Oculum, Corvi Non Eruit.

Splendid, Mr Ross, splendid! Hopefully you had time to enjoy the goings on with all that hosting work to do. I've been camp cook for a smaller group of first-rate scoundrels before for a week straight and between prep, cooking, and cleanup it didn't leave much in-between to enjoy the trip. I couldn't have participated anyway with diet and physical restrictions but it's refreshing to the soul to know that somewhere out there, some good people are still doing great things for fun.

You'd think the great Friendly State of Texas would have folks putting on a lot more of this sort of recreational shooting get-togethers, but sadly not so much. I have thought about trying to get more people involved and have some local shoots, but it's rather deserty here with respect to cast bulleteers. If I recall correctly the only Texian members of this site who participate anymore other than me are Popper, WQuiles, and Hawk, and they're all up in the metromess. The other two have been my friend for years and we DO get together to shoot lead and bull as frequently as we can.

we had fairly good attendance at the get together we had out in the Wyoming dessert.

still raining, siiigh.
summers coming, summers coming, summers coming..
oh,, we just went back to stage-2 of the covid lock down.
I don't think anyone got the word.
there's 2 times as many people coming through town as there was in stage 3.5.

I hope they all were going camping in Yellowstone in crappy wal-mart tents with no rain fly's.

Hurray! No empathy for tourists, here, neither, Fiver.
My only dream in life is to live some place that tourists are not aware of. Whether just passing through, or only staying overnight, or for a three-day weekend, or a 10-day Car Week, I grow more intolerant of them with each passing season.

Jon, all my therapy sessions started out with a stationary bicycle, when I had my knees replaced. I guess they look at it it as a warm up for the more aggressive exercises.

We drove over to the coast to get some sea food.
Went to our favorite restaurant in Crescent City, Ca.
Still only take out in N Ca.
We have been able to sit in and eat here in Or for a while now.

I don't mind the family group rolling through so much.
[it's more the I got me a duramax and a 5th wheel and a boat and a 4 wheeler crowd]

but we get tour busses 2-3 at a time, so when they stop 40-50 people roll off each one and they just wander up and down the road like they just entered some fairly land or something.
120-150 people on our main street is about as big as the crowd for the 4th of july parade gets down there.

worse is when you go to get gas or grab a little something from the deli at the C-store and there is 100 people in there all yelling in Chinese standing 0 inches apart.
or find them grouped around your truck because your AR or truck gun is leaning on the front seat and they all want to get a look at it.

Man, Fiver, you might be able to hear me laughing. I had no idea that you, too, are plagued by tour buses filled with Chinese tourists. I pity the In 'N Out Burger and McDonald's customer who walks in right after a bus unloads its passengers -- he'll die of starvation before he's able to place his order.
