Been spending last night and most of this morning repairing guns.

You know all the little things, like loose butt stock that has stripped out screws on my 870, that has been held in place with duct tape for 2 years.
Fixed a scratch that My AR15 put on my moms old 22. My AR just does not play well with me other guns.

Tore apart the first gun, my son had picked out for himself, Silver Eagle Stalker single shot 410. It had always had lite strikes since new, and I could not warranty it, because I had lost the receipt and had forgot to send in the registration card.
They have been getting more recurrent.
Tore it completely down, filed the burs high spots and machine marks off the firing pin and the channel, then lapped them with some valve grinding compound, cleaned everything up, filed, then emery the machine marks off the rest of the contact points and molyed her up. Hopefully that fixes it . As specs are not available
for that gun.

Took my AR15 lower over to a buds and he tigged the buffer retaining pin hole shut. Then I drilled a new one as he walked me thru the use of his mill. He was not sure of legalities even though it was a registered factory complete, receiver. So he said he should do the welding part (nothing illegal about filling a hole for someone.) Then he set the stuff up part way then told me how to clamp the receiver in, then make final adjustments and cut.
The old hole was drilled off from factory just a tad and the buffer was smacking the retainer while cycling, original fix was to just break the tab and live with the buffer flying out on disassembly. But I was getting tired of getting hit in the face with the buffer on every other tear down.

Then I put new fibers in all my glow sights.I have only had a multi size pack of them laying on the dinning room table for about 6 months.
Got to run errands now, but when things calm down going to take the Stalker out to test.
Busy day.

Thanks for keeping us updated on your boring and uneventful recovery from major surgery, Jon. Boring and uneventful = GOOD NEWS! Keep it up and don't do anything stupid!
That sage advice would apply to others as well, right? ;)

Hopefully both your recoveries from this point forward are uneventful.

...this was copy/paste facebook post, so the two friends I mentioned are people no one at artful knows.

Knee Rehab Day 6: Good news, bad news, and great news.

Good news
, Cold Pack works.
I guess I need to eat a little crow. My friends (Marya & Lori) thank you for mentioning Ice, a couple days ago, even if I disagreed with you, last night the upper leg swelling pain make it impossible to sleep, and figured I better try a cold pack. After a couple cycles with the cold pack, I was sleeping pretty good. I wonder if the crow would have tasted better if it was on ice?

Bad news, (black/blue area increased in size)...
I need to back up a bit. Friday, when I tried the Oxy, and with no pain, I feared I over worked the exercises, after which the black/blue area increased in size to what is seen in photo. It wasn't red, so I was pretty sure it wasn't infected, so I didn't call in. That was the area that increasingly became inflamed over the weekend, limiting my exercises and good sleep. This morning when I woke up, the leg was very stiff, the last ice pack was still on it, and was still cold. It was still swollen some, and I couldn't do much for exercises, and I had PT this morning, so I was gonna try to see the Ortho Doctor that assisted the surgeon and ask her about the black/blue and swelling. The PT tech said I shouldn't worry to much about the black/blue, she said that is common, but I should have the bandage checked/replaced. I did get an immediate appointment to Ortho Doctor, She explained why the Black/blue comes out later and may shift and will probably take 6 weeks or so to be gone, and it's not a worry. Also she said, due to my size, I should expect intermittent swelling as muscles/tendons find there place, the swelling may not go away quickly, but it can be lessened with elevation rest and ice. She has been a great resource in this whole process. She also asked who put the special gel bandage on (because the hospital Nurse who put it on, had pieced two bandages together because of the long wound), The Doc said the special gel bandage is designed to be stretched on. The old one was quite janky with bodily fluids, so it needed to be replaced anyway, she said, the wound looked real good, and she stretched a new bandage on, it looks very professional now.

Great news, (less worrying)
I'm feeling lots better, not having to worry some much about the black/blue and also not worrying that I might have torn/damaged something during the Friday exercises when I first tried the Oxy. I also think I have a handle on the swelling issue...yes it's still swelled and there is plenty of pressure type swelling pain. Later this morning, I choose to try the Oxy agian ...with the bit of advice given by my buddy Kessler, so I tried 1/2 pill (2.5mg) with one Ibuprofen (200mg) an hour before my noon exercises. That did work well, the swelling pain was more tolerable during exercises, than when I did the exercises at PT a few hours before (leg was swollen then too obviously). Due to my previous experience with the Oxy, after 90 min or so, I checked my Temp/BP/P and all in normal range, I'll check again later as well. Also, while I don't plan on taking anymore Oxy today, I may do the 1/2 Oxy again tomorrow, before noon exercises.

I can attest that if you have ANY major extremity "bone" work done, a Polar Ice Pack Machine is a Godsend. Initally took a couple of Oxy's, the took Ibuprofen and the Ice Pack when I had my Left Shoulder reworked. I was amazed!

Took an 81 year old FIL to the range. He hadn’t shot in about 6 months and we felt it would do him some good.
He has plenty of ammo loaded so we took the opportunity to use some of it.
Many cans were perforated.
My wife now has her own 1911 as his came home with her. Now to get her some nice grips, she wants something purple. I think VZ Grips has one that will be acceptable.

Well done with my running for the week.
Took the boys break down Silver Eagle 410 out,to test my handwork. I could not get it to lite strike if I tried, Trigger is now amazingly smooth for a shot gun. Glides open and closed. It is amazing what a little hand finish work will do for a cheap gun.

Guess it is time to put the AR15 back together now. I stopped at the gun shop on the way home and bought a new buffer retainer, and I already have a new latch plate to go between the buffer nut and lower, I buggered up the old one un--staking the buffer tube nut. Probably be testing it tomorrow, but pretty sure problem is solved.

Looking at buying some property in North Eastern Oregon. Can’t decide if I want to try and do it now or wait about five years so our house will be paid off.
40 archers with a river running through the property. Mule deer, Elk, great fishing. The property is surrounded by National forest. They are asking $70k

Surgeon finally called as promised and told me to "advance to a normal diet", whatever that means. Called the dietitian to confirm what this meant since surgeon could not give me a number. Then I found out the less than 2 grams a day diet I've been on was way too little fat and was only supposed to be on that for a couple days at most (been on it for six straight) and my goal should already have been 35-40 and that's conservative. Good thing I called the dietitian because "normal" diet might have 200 grams or more a day in fat. So I had some raw almonds for a snack and will be having tilapia fish tacos for supper with oil/vinegar salad dressing (my favorite). Tomorrow will add more good fats and try to gradually load my system and see if I spring a leak or not. If not, drain tube comes out Friday and I can start to put this whole thing behind me while continuing a fat-conservative (but not prohibitive) diet for a few more weeks. I'm throwing out the last of my antibiotics and going straight to a heavy-duty gut flora restoration routine, I'm sick and tired of feeling like crap because of starvation/malnutrition. Body needs essential amino acids and gut serotonin production to commence with haste.

On a side note I called my opthamologist regarding my apparent post-op Horner's syndrome, will meet with him on Thursday for an exam, discussion, and see if anything can be done about the constricted pupil and blurry vision in my shooting eye. If this is permanent as I suspect, I'll be learning how to shoot right-handed and doing a lot of work to switch dominance because currently my dominant left eye is dim and blurry enough to not be able to see open sights or even cross hairs clearly.

The property won't be any cheaper in five years. Your kids are on their own, time waits for no man, and if you don't have any family property now it's time to start. See if you can roll a term life insurance policy into the mortgage so your kids will have it paid for if you should die before it's paid off. Besides, how may parcels come with 40 archers standing guard?

Get rid of the archers, they are a PITA during hunting season. Maybe you can trade them one for one for acres?
Do it now if you are serious. Ian is right, land isn’t gonna get cheaper. Do it while young enough to enjoy it for a while.

Yeah. I really like the idea of the property being surrounded by National Forrest. Plus one on land not getting any cheaper. I’ll have to check in with Oregon Department of Fish and wildlife because I think land parcels of 40 acres and larger come with land owner preference tags for game in the area. Mule deer and Roosevelt Elk.

If it were me, I'd snap that up right now. That's less than 2 large/acre. Here in Ks most land in the SE part of the state is $2500 and up.

The archers are a great selling feature. No other property we have looked at offers them in the deal...

I'm paying taxes on an appraised value of $26,500 per acre, seven miles from city limits and the land is rocky hills covered in cedar trees in a semi-arid climate with the nearest live water over a mile away. Low-life trailer trash of all races for neighbors. My parents bought this property for $150/acre in 1971 and the only thing that our tax dollars have improved in all that time is the county road got paved about 20 years ago and several new schools have been built.
