Spent the morning with my youngest son and oldest daughter today at breakfast . Fussed around with a couple of errands . Got back to Mom's place an moved a little dab of dirt to make a more effective back stop on the hill out back . Then settled down with the oldest granddaughter ,15, to teach some shooting . Having grown up in Lemon Grove CA she just never had access and oppertunity . With the move of my daughter and husband to Texas and having Lily for the summer we have time to fix that ! I don't why but girls just take to this like a duck to water . For personal reasons we started with an iron sighted 22 LR rifle and after a few minutes and some little adjustments she was dinging the 6" plates at 25yd and the 4" regular enough to scare pop cans . We switched her to a Heritage SA 22 LR pistol and in a cylinder she was hitting the 8" plate . It's just not really good enough with whatever the flavor of the week 333 box at Walmart is to do much more than than that and it is just an introduction . All standing off hand as well .
We took a few pictures so maybe I'll get some after while to post .

One minor detail that matters , she's deaf with coclear implants so that mad for a unique hearing protection situation .
The end result was to turn down the exterior part and have her wear plugs . The outer parts have a 96 db cut out . They're not responsive enough for her to hear the bang cling at 25 yd but she could we the swing each time . At 50 yd hearing the clickpop , cling left her with a grin I don't think she will lose for a while .

They will be here a few more days so I'll be able to get some others out for her to shoot before they head back to San Antonio .

It's been 2 years almost since we were all together last .

yeah,,, they don't have to be hot.
it's just that I grow so few I have to make them stretch out.
plus I do like a good hot pepper.

I really like Hatch peppers and Anaheim's.
I put in some anaheim's this year, and now I have to just sit here and wait to see if they will get big enough to actually put some flowers on before the freeze.
Egg plants are the same way, I start mine super early because they grow so slow at the beginning I may or may not get anything from them
they are almost worth buying for the bigger plant size, but $4 a plant is out of control, especially for something that might not give me a return.

Jalapenos = semi-sweet dirt. Stealing and using that, for sure. I don't care for them either.

Marie made us the bar-none best-ever in my life chile verde tonight for supper. Out. Of. This. WORLD. Pin-cushion pork roast done PERFECTLY. Add on home-made pinto beans and rice, HIJA LA! We will be enjoying this for a few more days.

Ha!

Remember a couple of weeks back I stopped by the Cabelas in Allen, TX to buy some Rel7 powder to try as Ian suggested and posted a picture of a so-so selection?

Well, fast forward to today - almost nothing in stock:

the sad thing is I see two powders there I'm fine with using, But can't make out the ones to the left of the 700-X.
the lower one I believe is Int'L clay's, it is the same burn speed as green-dot and makes a fine 1200 fps. 20ga. dove/grouse load, not to mention it works great in many handgun loads.

Oh man, it's chigger season again. We work on removing noxious weeds from our prairie and other native plantings and about three days ago we were killing off sweet clover. Now we are both riddled with chigger bites!
Dragged a couple of .25-20 repeaters out yesterday to compare 85 grain plain base with 70 grain gas checked loads. The Model 1892 full length rifle absolutely tack drove the 257420 with 9 grains of 4227. The Remington Model 25 was equally happy with the plain base RCBS bullet or the Lyman. Got a good lesson about the point of impact shooting away from the sun's glare on the front sight. The bead sight on the Remington worse than the blade on the Winchester, but both were affected. Darn I also miss my young eyes with 20/15 vision.
Next I need to drag out the Lo-Wall with a scope and see what that does. I was satisfied with minute of squirrel eye ball with the RCBS bullet and 6.5 gr of 4227. But experimenting can be fun.

I looked just now at the full size picture, and I can tell it is in fact Int'L Clays in the bottom, but I can't tell the one to the left of 700-X either.

We got a bad batch this year with the late rain and second spring. I call these "Hill Country Rock Chiggers" because they literally hang out on bare rock. I picked up half a dozen of them walking the center of the driveway to the mailbox a few days ago, not getting within four feet of a blade of grass. Our preventative is a spray bottle of K1 Kerosene by the door to mist shoes, sock tops, and lower pants legs before venturing forth. Now, how'd that one get me on the crook of my elbow?

Chiggers and ticks both are pretty bad this year with double the average rainfall. So far. At the end of June we were over the average yearly rainfall and chiggers and ticks are mighty happy campers.

Chiggers are the worst. They like to get you in places you can’t scratch in polite company.
My dad was a complete tick magnet. He and I could walk thru the same area and I would have no ticks on me or my clothes and he might have 10-15 on his clothes. I think some people have body chemistry that attracts them.

Well lets see, wife is down in her back for the second week in a row and can't do a thing. So this morning I cooked her breakfast, cleaned the entire house, vacuumed, mopped and wiped everything down including the bathroom, made up the beds, took out the trash, cleaned the cats food and water bowls including the mat they sit on. Put my new tags on the car and truck an now I'm sitting here eating a three-day-old piece of pizza for my breakfast and when I'm done with that I have two acres of yard to mow, trim and clean up and it already 96 degrees. Happy Forth of July.

They can get pretty bad around here in NC sometimes, I used to get them a lot when I was younger and played in the woods a lot or was picking blackberries that was usually the worst place to get them. I don't do much of either one anymore so I've been pretty lucky not to have had any in quiet a few years.

I need a NACL infusion, at least 2 Liters before I could continue. Either that or a couple of 16oz Coors.

Just got in from mowing about 3 acres of bull and Canada thistle. These are actually on my neighbor's property and are part of his Yak pasturage. Problem is they are upwind from my prairie. Just starting to flower now, no seeds. Got in the house and my wife told me my timing was good, the turkey pot pie just came out of the oven.
