I have an angus tongue thawing in the fridge. It'll get injected and brined and go in the smoker tomorrow.

I got up at 7:00 AM and started casting bullets. It was 75 degrees when I started and four and a half hours later it was 90* and I was soaking wet.

Why would an otherwise sane person be casting bullets on a holiday weekend? In the middle of summer! Well I’ve got a new gun and a new melter and I want to play with them. The gun is a Ruger #1 in 30-30 Win and the melter is a RCBS MeltPro.

I will sort the bullets and write up the casting log and call it a day.

Celebrate a little.

Can't eat nuthin' greasy so I'm not cooking any good stuff for anyone else in the house either, by golly.

I hit the shop this morning before it got too hot and turned some 1/2x5/8" bushings to extend the columns for one of my Lee presses. it was 104 yesterday and promises to be at least the same today. I WILL launch some lead later on when it gets REALLY hot, probably when the sun starts to get lower in the sky.

Really wanted to have my personal 4th fireworks show at the range but! Isolation! Did PC more 185gr GC for the 30/30. No sense trying them in the BO. Think all the green jello I've had did it to me. Turkey hot dog on pita bread to celebrate? I will get the steak she promised, next week! Don't try to convince me that there are no chiggers up north. Scabies are the worst.
Couleweeks ago LGS has almost all the reloder stuff plus a keg of unique. Not much of anything left on the shelves, no ammo, handguns or rifles. Only some LRPs. Now CLOSED due to covid! And I suspect nothing to sell.

But scabies are very avoidable. I don’t tend to share clothes or towels with anyone. Only one other person ever in my bed.

Canceled all the local fireworks today(coved). So I got the stash out and told the boy to have a ball last night and today.
He is 14 and he is safety aware, so I can trust him.
Fireing up the lee pot to blend some of the cleaner alloy with tin and make those cute little lee ingots.

This is a chigger. Too small to be seen with the naked eye. When they bite they leave a wound several hundred times the size of the bug that bit you and itches about like someone holding a lit cigarette on your skin. That itch lasts for 3-4 days.

They are a member of the spider family, quite tiny. When they bite they do not burrow into the skin, they bite and leave the scene to bite again another time. From several hours to the next day the itch begins which is the first sign that you were dinner. Only good thing about them is that there are no known diseases carried by them like ticks or skeeters. However, straight jacket mfg's do a booming business this time of year.

They like to burrow where your clothes are snug. Think socks, waistband, and groin. Imagine the worst mosquito bits on steroids. The itch is far worse. Try not scratching bites near your junk in public when the itch is excruciating.

Chiggers are a major nightmare to have.

I did find a cure for the itch that works amazingly well. Put a dab of Neosporin +Pain ointment on the gauze of a Band-Aid and place directly on the bite. Rub it in. Don't really need the Band-Aid but it keeps your clothes from rubbing off the Neosporin. Within 5 minutes no itch. Leave Band-Aid on for two days.

BIL is grilling a pork loin. Yesterday I drove him in to the cities to a car dealer, where he purchased his first new vehicle since 1999. His old one was rear-ended and totaled by the insurance company, but he has continued to drive it for the past couple of years. He is a Navy vet with some PTSD issues, but is doing well overall. Next, he wants a good 22 rifle. He likes his dad's old Winchester Model 61, but doesn't know much about guns. The 61 was passed to the older brother when dad died. We'll visit the LGS when it reopens after the weekend and have a look.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
Winchester 61s are fantastically expensive anymore. Does it have to be a pump action? I think Rossi and Henry are both still offering 22 pump rifles.
