Thanks for the suggestions, fellas. He doesn't want a semi-auto, and wants the ability to shoot S-L-LR. In the next day or so I will show him my CZ452 as an example of a bolt action. I hadn't thought of the Henry, so will have to research that. The Rossi 62 is a good little rifle, but he wants a scope. My Win 61 & 62 aren't going anywhere ;)

BIL isn't a "gun guy" but grew up around them and uses a .22 to dispatch varmints on the farm property he helps out on. He just want's his own gun.

The Winchester 9422 is the Model 61 actuated by a lever instead of the pump. S-L-and LR and scopeable. Not cheap, but then what is that is any good?

82nd is what I think the SIL was in, they see plenty over there.
he has some at home tough times,,, like around memorial day and such.

It was 101 infantry. Don't let him hear you say 82nd

Here's some pics of the lake tonight while we wait for the fireworks

I haven't paid much attention to the Henry brand rifles and forgot that they make a pump. The 9422 is excellent, also. I regret letting mine go back about 20 years ago. Great gun! He's not in a hurry, but is wanting to learn. I mentioned the older Marlin 39 this morning over coffee, but he wasn't too keen on a lever action. Thanks again for the suggestions!

Well this morning I finally had a little time to work on my shooting shed.

Framed up the end wall and just managed to get the RO for the door to fit. I say that which means I only have to cut the door and jam down one and a quarter inches. But it will be swinging by the end of the day. Got to skin the frame first.

Needs to be trimmed and painted yet

There's 5 sliding windows that can go left or right as needed. There is 3 slide rails so windows can bypass each other, you can have a total of 3 windows out of the way in any configuration needed. Nice thing in the winter you can just have a slot 3 or 4 inches wide to minimize heat escaping. Have not cut out the shooting position on the right half of the bench yet.
The space from the rear edge of the bench to the rear wall is 5 1/2 feet by 7 1/2 wide foot print. Shelf and room under the bench to keep lead sled, targets and other shooting related stuff that will make it into the shed. The heater will be to one side of the door and there's going to be a small built in bench shelf on the other side of the door. Couple of LED lights down the center.

Looks good.
I see someone spending a lot of time there in less than nice weather doing some shooting.
Exactly. If I can get Biscuit my Border Collie to change the targets I'll have it made.

Now that's roughing it.

I'm hoping it will allow me to actually do some winter shooting. 40 years ago winter was a exciting challenge. I no longer ski, snow machine or make snow angels. The shine on "roughing it" has worn thin.

Ian would tell you that he has never had to shovel heat off the drive.

Very hard to argue against a Ruger 10/22 in this day and age. Just sayin'.
Yeah, I have 3 10/22's and they are great. But, when it's squirrel time, fun time I grab my Remington model 12. Just doesn't get any better than that.

You guys can keep the heat. It's low 70's high 60's and usually we will get some low 80's, but haven't made it yet. I used to work construction, sheeting and nailing roofs in the summer in Palm Springs and Indio. I know hot. You can have it.
Besides I use a loader, not a shovel.

I got 4-500 115 fmj 9mm and 100 200 gr HP for 45 acp from Paul. Seems like a waste to get rid of them other than 1 at a time thru the barrel of a handgun. Makes me feel kinda dirty to shoot jacketed.

At large, whereabouts unknown.

Outstanding, John! I'm jealous. Mine turned out to be more ambitious than my body can handle, not sure if I can even finish it fully as designed now but at least it has a foundation and I can frame an insulated, air conditioned shed on top.
