Had an early start today because I never put my smelting stuff away and got thinking at night .....smelt the rest of that gas pipe I have.
At least it will take up less space ! So after the feeding of the cat ranch!.... I fired up the pot and dropped in all the cut up pieces of the pipe! Then cleaned up and put everything away until the next time ( hopefully next year)!
My son did what he thinks is the last cut of the property for the year....so Since the field grass was thick I raked it all up and And used it to fire up a new compost pile! I also turned the Summer pile for the last time ....it has cooled down now so it was all beautiful compost for the garden....however it is still a lot of work for an older out of shape dude! so all an all I got all but one of the items for today checked off my list! But that was boil some eggs, so I can get that done before sleep time!
Tomorrow on to a new list!

Like your avitar. That gun also has a lot of artistry to it.
Take for instance that spoon you got mounted on it. I can see why you used it for a gun ornament. It has a hole right in the middle. Defiantly not good for soup anymore. Kinda gets in the way of the sights when you have it unfolded and sticking up like that.
LOL

A couple of mine have those old worthless soup spoons on them! The RB (and prob another one will). And nearly all of my lever guns have old useless hog nose rings that never got split repurposed for sights too; plus the Rem Mdl 14 35 Rem pump gun; (clone) 1873 Special Sporting rifle in 44 WCF will prob get one too. Them damned two prong fork thingies are worthless for me and my old eyes! But those repurposed soup spoons and worthless nose rings, now thems something else!

You know I am just jealous.
I would give my right foot (or at least a toe or two) to get my hands on an authentic fully functional 1900ish rifle. Rolling block, trap door or even early bolt. With a factory installed or at least period correct, early marble brand Apercture sight.

I have a hard enough time giving up on a piece or two of 45 acp, no way I’d walk away from a 25-20
Went back out today. Hands and knees like a crime scene. Then in desperation, I took the string trimmer and denuded an area far larger than what should have been reasonable for the stick of brass to have flown into. My wife came out to assist, no joy. I will beg or borrow a metal detector. This has become a mission!

They have an organized track of garage sales in Grand Rapids, Mn. , called the Hwy 38 sales. Runs up Hwy 38 to Marcell, Mn and several roads branching off that. It's really a Friday Saturday sale, but the early birds always start on Thursday, so of course the wife and I went today. She pretty much filled her Highlander, I bought a 15# barbell for my daughter $2 (she wanted two), a like new Peet shoe dryer for my son for $5, 3/4 of a box of Waa12 wads for $1, and a Pewter tea pitcher about Quart size for $1.
The guy I bought the pewter from, said he had just sold 5 1 pound coffee cans of shot, to a couple guys for $1 a can! That was a good score for them.
One place we stopped, the proprietor, had corn muffin style lead ingots about 1# each he was trying to sell for $5 each. He had a couple jig moulds also for near new price.
The best deal of the day, as far as I'm concerned, came from the husband, of a women that used to work in the craft department of Wal-Mart for my wife. Her and my wife got along pretty good and did alot of craft stuff together. She died young at age 52, from a brain cancer. We see him at some of the craft and garage type sales from time to time, and he's still pretty upset over the loss of his wife. So, every time he sees my wife it brings back memories etc. He sells hand made outdoor type crafts, antique fishing lures, some tanned fur, old gun stuff, old shell boxes, and some modern tackle he picks up in trades.
He had a tackle box my wife wanted, which was full of spinner making stuff, but the wife didn't want the tackle really, but asked if I could use it. I really just took a quick look at the surface contents and said sure. It was a DIY type box, with some really wild colored hand tied jigs etc in the top tray. I told him the spinner blades I could see in the top tray, were worth more than the $5 he was selling it to my wife for. I'm not sure what he had it tagged at. We got home and were getting her Highlander unloaded and she said to me to get the tackle out of that box so she could get the box cleaned up for an arrangement she wanted to put in it. I get a cloth handled bag and dump it all in there and head to the shop. Couple hours later I'm checking out what is in there. Over 200 spinner blades with clevis's, beads, some odd ball assortment of hooks and some jigs. Two one hundred packed spinner blades that are marked "Herter's Mitchell, Sd."( I didn't know there was a Herter's in Mitchell or ever was). Anyway, now I'm feeling guilty about the deal, because I know what those blades are worth, not to mention the beads and clevis'. He and I talked about him buying some tanned fur from me, so I'm sending the wife up there with a tanned beaver tomorrow, so I can sleep tonight. He had no idea what the blades and beads sell for, and I didn't really pay much attention until I got it home. It'll work out in the end.

I tried to make crab apple jelly yesterday...it kind of failed.
After doing some interweb reading about it, I think I over-cooked and over-mashed the apple pieces during the first cooking stage...If that wasn't the case, then the crab apples I'm using just aren't the type to use for the recipe style I'm using. These crab apples may be better suited for apple butter?
ANYWAY, I will try this again today...to find out.

I can send you more crab apples to keep trying with.
mine are starting to hit the ground, and cover the shed roof.

B.I.L called yesterday and asked if I was interested in going on a Pig hunt down near Ian's place.
I'm not really interested in shooting a pig and hauling it half way across the country, but I wouldn't mind another road trip with him and his big brother.
we took a few in our younger days and they always seemed to turn into an adventure of some sort.

Learn something every day. Believe it or not I never knew crap apples were edible in any form, I always assumed they, were good for deer but, were poison to humans.

:headscratch: Well don't feel too bad, about 275 years ago many people thought tomato's caused blindness.

I have a Quince which I make a spiced jelly from ( Has it's own Pectin) however sometimes I find it hard to judge when it is jelly and end up with a Quince goo that is too firm and needs heating to spread it! It still is very tasty but not very toast friendly

Flowering crab apple trees make some tiny crab apples, like the size of a marble. I wouldn't use those. Some crab apples are about 2" in diameter. The tree i have is called Firecracker Crab apple. They are very red on the outside and partly red on the inside. They are quite tart, but still eatable raw, like a regular apple. I am quite sure if you ate 3 or 4 of them, you'd end up with a belly-ache. I like them sliced thin on a salad.
