The only "verboten" part of an M1A was the 20-round magazine and the OEM flash-hiders. Springfield Armory came up with a CA-legal muzzle unit very early in the Assault-Weapons goat-rope sequence. The short answer to that element--if the vents on your muzzle unit run parallel to the bore line, then the unit is a "flash suppressor" and is verboten. If the vents run at some direction other than parallel to the bore line, or are drilled round--the device is then called a "muzzle brake" or "recoil reducer", and is legal. GMBTA. When you try to legislate fashion statements, such idiocies are the outcomes.

I have had 3 of the M1A variants--one each rack-grade and NatMatch in the 1980s and 1990s, then a 3rd rack-grade in the early 2000s. With the closure of the local Inland Fish & Game Association ranges (site of the Burrito Shoots made famous by Buckshot), and the costs of running a self-loading 308 on the diminished income of my early retired years, I sold that 3rd rifle off as well. Maybe if I moved someplace with a decent range nearby I would get another example, dunno. I definitely like the critters, and had use of one at work for a couple years. One fool fleeing on an ATC with an AR-15 came real close to containing a couple soft-point from that rifle in 1991 near I-15 and SR-74 in the eucalyptus groves, but the AR-15 bounced free and landed on the ground. The fleeing meth cook elected to keep going and not pick up the rifle, which saved ammunition on my end.

Whut do "GMBTA" mean?

Governmental meddling by tyrannical administrations?

Just another of those SWMBO things, I can never decipher.

Battery in her car quit, pulled the old one (replacement 2016), got a new one installed. 150$. Wow,last one was 80$. Dropped the clamp into the dark hole - almost got it out with a magnet but nope. Gotta take the bottom of the car apart now. Just might leave the plastic off. Or dremel a hole in it so I can reach the clamp.

We were expecting delivery of the composite deck boards, before noon. At 3:00, my wife called the lumber yard. "Um, er, well, it'll be delivered tomorrow."
Wasted day.

Thanks, Allen.
SWMBO I know from when I used to visit that other forum.

My use of SWMBO stemmed from the Ursula Andress 1960's movie "She". Scared the snot out of me!!!

you home alone?
it seems boring there.

so to add insult to depression I just about totally wrecked my truck when 2-4 point and a 3 point buck cut across in front of me right by the church on the way home from hunting tonight.
the boy wanted me to clip the big one in the front [which I easily could have] I just wasn't into the repair bill part of the deal.

I use to go to a boring bar when I was younger. So boring, I had to get drunk every time I went inside.

Thirty 20-foot composite deck boards were delivered, this afternoon. The crew was to start in the morning, but my nephew called and said the job foreman had to leave for an out-of-town emergency. However, he said he'd get a crew together for next Saturday.
We can wait.

Got notice Wednesday that my internet provider is declaring bankruptcy and shutting down in a couple weeks. Company had moved into the area and bought up everything over the last 10 years or so., nothing much to switch to. Went ahead and signed with AT&T Fixed today on advice from the local cable guys. Now to figure out a new email provider. Only had one accnt and that was with one of the companies that had been bought out. Hate to think of how many places I'll have to change that info with.

Sometime in the past I had signed up for RCBS notifications. Tuesday I got one saying they are now offering discounted pricing to veterans. Wednesday I filled in the blanks and attached a scanned of my V. A. card (DD 214 works, too, but the card was much handier). I checked yesterday and I'm all set up. Initial items I looked at have 33% discounts. Yippie, skippy!

I'm looking for new stuff I don't have, and replacing old stuff I do have.

Edit to add: Free shipping on orders of $25 and more. Think that pertains to all customers.

So I was just perusing the RCBS site tonight and saw the same thing. Set things up and submitted the DD-214.

I called them the other day to get some pieces and parts. They were AWESOME! Replacing things for dies (including a cpl extras cause I know will bend/break {pins/posts}). Was also looking for extra priming pin set for the Posi-prime I have. I wore one out, but have two extra I picked up in the last 2 years. Lady told me send the old worn out one in, and any old shell holders, and they would warranty replace it. ASked her what I owed for all the other stuff I asked for, and she said it was all being warrantied out/replaced for free! Again, I was blown away.

I DO have one problem tho. She said to include any "old" shell holders and they would upgrade them to the new ones that work with the new hand primer. And I have a TON of shell holders, However, I do NOT know how to ID an old one (pre-1980 version, that won't work with new primer tool) vs new (post 1980) shell holder that WILL work with the new priming tool! And I hate to send in 30-40 shell holders that might not need to be replaced!

ANYBODY know how to ID an old pre-1980 RCBS shell holder? And a pic would be AWESOME! TIA!

Spent several hours yesterday cleaning in the sheds. Shop vaccing dead Asian lady beetles mostly, and sweeping the inevitable dirt and debris that gets into sheds and shops.
Then you rediscover, things. A half bottle of old Hoppe's, a good thing, a plastic tub with maybe 40 22-250 cases in it, don't own a 22-250 any longer, sort of a neutral thing. A good file, rusted with mouse pee, a bad thing.
If I could only get rid of stuff. Found my old Western clay pigeon flinger, (hand trap), from over 50 years ago and it was old and used then. I just don't want to pitch it. A bunch of stuff from my Dad and Father-in-laws shops after they passed. Haven't used most of it, it just takes up space and gets dirtier, and rustier. And so on and so forth. Did manage to get rid of a bunch of shingles, (we have steel roofing on everything now), and three big garbage bags of dirt and junk. Gathered up a bunch of drain oil to take into the recycling center this morning. I wish there was a good system for getting rid of used filters.
Post frontal day yesterday after 3 plus inches of rain on Thursday. Windy from the NW and got colder throughout the day. I may spend some time today putting together some .38 w.c.f. hunting loads and mounting a tang sight on the Model 92.
