Best thing I've found for the horrid itch from chiggers is a small dab of Neosporin +Pain on the gauze of a band-Aid. The Band-Aid is just to keep your clothes from rubbing it off. When out in the woods I use Cutter Backwoods with 40% Deet on neck & collar, arms, all the way around the waist & belt, legs of the jeans, shoes & socks & ankles. Helps a lot avoiding using the Neosporin in the first place.

This has been the worst year for chiggers since I've lived here. Been a very wet winter and spring.

Use a counter irritant, think BenGay. It is what I use on all insect bites. Just be careful with it on chigger bites in, well, sensitive locations.

well I was wrong about that hard freeze knocking back the skeeters.
we smoked the fish from Sunday after getting the cement work done today.
after dinner we played some croquet on Littlegirls back lawn, and about 7 or so the little bastages made their presence known.
luckily we were all sunburned enough to feel them land on us.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
The very simple secret to Ebay is to look at the sellers ratings. A guy with 4 sales and a 100% feedback rating is a risk. A guy with 30,345 sales and a 100% rating is definitely worth your trust. The guy with a 97.5% rating that sells used parts is probably a good risk IF you take the time to read and look at the descriptions and read the feedback. There will always be people that will complain because the finish on the used part for their 1923 Whippet Touring Sedan didn't look as good in hand as it did in the picture. I've ordered from sellers in India, Great Britain, Ireland. Canada, China and other places and never had any problems. I had maybe 3 issues in almost 25 years. I often find an Ebay offer for less than the same seller lists on his website. Find this with livestock equipment a lot. You see an item from Greece or Croatia and the seller has a 91% rating in 103 sales, stay away. Pretty simple really. Ebay is pretty good about getting rid of the sellers that aren't up to snuff. Mind you, I buy mostly used tooling, livestock and tractor stuff and things like cordless batteries, tire inner tubes and other stuff that is either unavailable locally or costs 4-5x as much for the same item here. A Chinese inner tube that been on the shelf at my local auto parts store for 8 years isn't going to last any longer than the one shipped in from China last month to the big wholesalers in Calif., even if I do pay $35.00 instead of $13.00.

Got the Escape patched up enough to try and get it to pass inspection one more time. I know why NYS salts the roads so heavily (insurance industry demands over many years) but the cost to people using those roads is just terrible. There isn't a darn thing wrong with this little car that can't be traced directly to rust. I always seem to run into those 1 in a million guys that religiously wash the underside, frame and interiors of doors and rockers once a month year round and who have vehicles with not a spot of corrosion anywhere. Then there is the other 98.5% of us that might do that once a year at best. I would love to be "that guy" but it's not going to happen. So I patch and scrape and scale and do my best. It's a losing battle!

Got the boys minibike racks mounted and headlight moved. He's got one of those little bikes you see out front at TSC. Rugged little sucker and he loves it. His pals all have either ATV's of their own or access to the family sidexside and they all want to ride the bike. Figures. It also tops out at maybe 20mph. He's busted his wrist twice on a bicycle, so that seems fast enough to me!

Couple of things you need to know about weather guessers, They do not have windows in their offices, they do not read or listen to their own reports. There, see how simple that is? :)

Seems kinda odd that all of the ticks are on the outside of the ear and doesn't seem to be any on the inside. Gotta feel a little sorry for poor Bambi, that has to be miserable.

California's Central Coast Amid The Insanity
Our heat waves usually are of a three-day duration, and such was the case this go-round. Still, today was hotter than normal, but the seasonal massive fog bank is back and engulfing the coastal hills. Ahhh, relief.

Heat? Not much of that here right now. We are expecting 48° when I awake in the AM.

On a less positive note I am going to the Md tomorrow to verify my initial diagnosis of a hernia. No real pain right now but I will likely have surgery sooner than later just to be done with it.

I told my store manager it was his fault since I’ve been carrying him all his time.

Will put a bit of a crimp in things for a month or so.

Dang, I feel bad for the deer & Brad.

Worked, sore & tired, as usual for me.

Went to the indoor range a couple days ago to celebrate our 16th anniversary. How time flies! Rented the wife a couple different pistols with rd's mounted for her to try, one ria45 & a Sig sumtinerother, both ran great & were fun to unload. The nag26 is fully functional now, the nag17 needs quite some more tinkering, the nag22 did great for the first go but the stick mags need some help. Quite an enjoyable time.

Loading up more RD 165gr 30-30 loads. No GC, PC, and 6.2gr of Redot for my Savage 340. Sweet accurate little load.

almost emptied the greenhouse out into the garden today.
Littlegirl asked if that was a wise decision.
told her there wasn't much point in having a walk through garden if there's nothing to look at in it.

I got a couple of plants left to go, but most of them are just gonna get up-planted and trellis trained then spotted out in the G-house.
sunburned and wore out, it took me most of 10 hours to get everything in and how I like it.

Update: Email alert from the power company said power was restored at 3:30 this morning so the generator ran for 25.5 hours. I'll top off the propane tank so I can see how much that took. Could be I don't really want to know.

Guess I still don't know exactly how long the generator was running but it's narrowed down to either 25.0 or 26.5 hours. One article in the local newspaper said the power went out at 1 AM, another article in the same paper by the same writer said 2:30, fair guess he doesn't know either. Also the generator is not the only thing run from the tank, the barbecue grill is also on the bulk propane tank. Near as I can tell the tank was at 80% when the power went out. Today when I wasn't here the truck showed up and filled the tank but only to 79%. So aside from the barbecue and 1% under on filling it he put in 47.1 gallons. Just as an average I'll say the generator used 2 gallons per hour or maybe slightly less.

As a side note I was leasing the 500 gallon tank and so had no choice but to buy propane from that propane company. Today I went to their office and bought the tank outright. I can now shop around for the cheapest propane cause that place sure wasn't. Their current price less fees and taxes is $1.999, today for 47.1 gallons I paid $128.48 or $2.73 per gallon including fees & taxes. Another local company where Winelover gets his propane is currently $1.49 a gallon, I don't know what fees if any they tack on but 50 cents a gallon sure adds up when buying 300 or 400 gallons at a time.

Marie and I did another day trip today, this time to country that Rick might be familiar with--the San Gabriel River north of Azusa on SR 39. This may sound strange, having lived 40 miles east of this area--but today was my first-ever trip into this Canyon and the surrounding area.

You can sure tell we got a ton of rain and snow this winter. The first two flood control dams going up-canyon were FULL. They are releasing water at a fair rate, but the first reservoir was only 5-6 feet below full-pool, and the upper reservoir was 100% full--water about 2 feet short of the spillway. Lots of submerged trees and brush that grew up in dry years.

TONS of flowers still in bloom, most prominent were the yuccas--but the Scotch broom and lupine were trying to keep up. Marie posted some photos to Facebook. The highways are JACKED UP. No time estimate on opening up SR 2 or SR 39 above the 5,000 foot level. The Valentine's Day storms and flooding destroyed a LOT of highways in out local mountains. I can imagine the back-country fire roads are as bad or worse. Even the paved roads that access them are closed and under construction. When you have 3 government agencies as stakeholders on road repairs, the bureaucratic sniping and backwash is likely continuous.

A great drive today, saw some new country as well as some familiar areas that I haven't explored for a while. I almost didn't recognize downtown San Bernardino--it has changed RADICALLY, and for the better. I still won't drive through after dark--not on a bet.
