Ian, you would have to seen this guys place to understand. Scads of old American iron with names like Cincinnati, LeBlond, South Bend, Monarch, etc with a smattering of late model Japanese wood working stuff. All driven by a series of line shafts from a diesel outside the back door. Lighting nd the line shaft is the only difference between this place and what Keith is putting up. Diesels torn down here and there, one off projects over that way, parts for a sawmill made in 1920 being reproduced in that direction. Just 'cuz they're Amish doesn't mean they are stupid.

Lost most of our breeze overnight, gonna be hot. Hope to get the lawns mowed and some parts figured out to order.

Met plumbers this morning at the building site. Got things squared away, they are putting piping for water and sewer and floor drains in place. Concrete floor to be poured Friday. Also met with engineer from utility company to square away getting electricity and gas to building. Should know cost and time frame in a few days.

Later this morning I met with rep from local motorcycle builder, they build custom bikes and aftermarket parts for same. Can't keep up with demand and need to sub out some work. Here is picture of one of a kind wheel on custom bike they were delivering to local customer. It is machined out of a solid billet of aluminum. Takes a lot bigger machine than what we have but they have lots of smaller parts that are within our size range. Never really wanted to get into making car and bike parts but if the money is there we'll give it a try.

Plumbers putting fittings in floor prior to pouring concrete.

The gun store manager called to tell me that my July/August 1898 dated, post-WW I cut-down Krag had sold and a check was waiting for me. Yippie, skippy!!

took the G-boy down to the car races tonight.
he had a pretty good time, and made about 100 friends.

he is definitely a boy.
fishing, shooting, racing,,, and girls are all checked off the list,, and we still got a couple months until he hits 2.

circle track.
we don't have a drag strip within 125 miles of me.

you'd really have to see this place.
it's small, family operated, and pretty... well,, rinky dink.
they set up a period of time during the races where the fans can come in and make a couple of timed laps in their street car sometimes.
have 5$ raffles to be the driver of one of the cars in the 'boat race' they have 2-3 times a year.
on the inner dirt field they have a 'foot race' for the kids, the finish line is a big line of candy.
all the kids from 2-3 up to like 12 all go at one time,,, somehow all the little kids manage to get a couple of pockets full of candy too, even the ones that fall down.
I just wandered in with my little cooler, no questions asked, no search.
during the intermission period they have grudge races where guys in the pits can challenge other cars to a race.
three laps,,,, one starts on the inside, one on the outside, then they flip positions for 3 more laps, if it's 1-1 they do it again.
don't wanna sit in the stands?
go park your truck next to the fence on the back stretch or down in turn 3-4 and sit on the tailgate... yep.

if your into fast paced regimented start times and the like, this isn't the place for you.
things go pretty smooth, but it is a very relaxed atmosphere and time schedule.
oh and there usually isn't a line, or much of one anyway to get a hot-dog or whatever, but the beer stand is closed during the trophy presentations because the 'beer lady' is also the trophy queen.

they do what they can.
I don't know how they make it though, they can't be taking in much of a gate, or making much off concessions.
I'd say 2K a week would be about all they are operating on.

Reminds me of the riverside dirt 1/4 midgets long time ago. hang you arm over the wall if you want, thunder rolls by. Same as Sedalia dirt - clods and all. Much fun.

Sound like a good rodeo crossed with small-town dirt track racing. Most of that died off around here when the housing market crashed in 05-06. Most of the guys (and gals) doing it were in construction. We used to build a lot of engines for them.

Yesterday I sanded, washed, and painted a run of fence pipe posts where the fenceline arcs around part of the cul-de-sac. Today I rolled out, cut 90' off, rolled it up, transported, tied off, stretched, and tied the other end to finish that run. Then I capped the pipes and tied the wire to the posts. It only got to 103 today and there was a light breeze so it wasn't too bad. Tying 34 high-tensile knots wore the hands out as usual. Three more gates and one 20' run of fence between the front drive-through and walk-through gate and I'll officially be halfway finished with this mess.
