My wedding was a trainwreck.....

Crazy mother in law was in the little prestage room where you get ready,5 dang minutes before the,"I do's" ...... in tears, begging my wife not to marry me. Father in law pickled @10 a.m. on cheap booze watching pink elephants dancing through the air......

I organized and paid for the whole show. Had been redoing the sanctuary in the #1 Presbyterian church,in the fancy part of town and made very good friends with them. So was a natural to get married there. My family, friends, and clergy were all slack jaw at the wife's side? In laws didn't have the class to come to the reception......

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
September 11. It was 18 years ago. A lifetime, but only a second ago.

Had a Town Board meeting last night. I don't know how many others pay attention to this stuff at the local level, but up here it's wicked tight. We had both fire companies that serve our town there "negotiating" their contracts. Both want an average of about 3.5% a year increase for the next 5 years. "Negotiate" is a misnomer. It's a demand, no more, no less. One of the idio.....gentlemen made the statement that any less of an increase and the fire company would only be breaking even. Well gee, isn't that what a "volunteer" company should be doing? Other guy was bragging on their new 105 ft ladder truck. A 105 foot ladder truck in an area where the tallest structures outside silos are 3 stories?!!! So their demands were factored into the mess we had to deal with and the bloodletting began. I made the motion right off the bat that the Board give up the raises we got last year that I voted against back then. Surprisingly, that idea passed. It's only $200 over the year split between 4 of us, but it set the tone for the rest of the review. We're still in a pickle, but we cut enough to squeak by one more year I think. Any big changes and the local taxpayers will be in with pitchforks and torches when their taxes shoot up 10%!!! They have no clue because they don't come to the meetings! Rant over.

Raining here, some more...

It is a beautiful wedding photo. The bride is radiant.

Our girls say similar things on the their birthdays. That youngest one gets reminded 'That had you been FIRST, you also would have been THE LAST'. She remains a handful at age 29, but lives far enough away to blunt some of the effects (Anchorage, AK).

Brad, you have a stunningly beautiful bride and you're lookin' pretty debonair yourself.

What I see on Paul's face is exactly what I would expect to see; worry, pride and hope. His worry was obviously unfounded.

that is a pretty standard look

The look of "I make lots of bullets & know of more hiding places than you have bones" .... yep but, he smiles to. Guess just not when your around?:p;)

Wonderful pic & his fears that day were gladly unfounded.

Been reading the,new to me David Tubb,"High Power Rifle" book. I am definitely going to be a better shooter, both field and testing off the bench. So it's worth the $$.

Backing up 15 years or so.... I'd bought a book on welding by PE, Frank Marlow. "Welding, fabrication and repair". Used to keep it in the truck. Read that thing over and over killin time, whenever that became available or,just relaxing. Well,Tubb's book is this kind of book. Can keep a copy in your vehicle and carry it with you to the Drs office,or waiting for the wife or kids, anywhere you want a relaxing read to bolster shooting principles.

It's a used soft cover copy so,dog eared pages, highlighted lines, spilt coffee all just don't matter. Then when it's good N plenty worn........ give it to someone, and grab another for yourself.

Dawn often commented that when boys came to the house her father was in an old white T shirt and jeans cleaning guns. Somehow that didn’t seem to keep me away?

Just got back from escrow company. Although escrow on Kali house won't close officially until Friday, I finished signing all papers today.
Escrow papers on our Arkansas property are all signed and were received by escrow/title company this morning. That escrow should officially close on Monday.

So we got to post wedding pics too? Mine might be a tin type! FIL ( like a second Dad to me, same with MIL) offered 600$ to elope. She said not going to happen!

I told my daughter I had a single word to say to her regarding weddings- Vegas.
This was when she suggested that a father-daughter fist bump was sufficient. Neither of of care to dance.
My daughter is me with hormones

I was thinking yesterday ....yes of course it was dangerous but I needed nonfocus to figure out how to get the thing I was doing in focus ........ Anyway , I ran across some little thing that reminded me of an article long ago about one of the old west gun fighter/lawmen now I'm not sure which one it was but at the time I was reading about several and they kind of ran together . Back to the point I was raised by people that very likely had breakfast , lunch or coffee out in LA or San Francisco in the same cafe with one or more of those famed gun fighter/lawmen as several of them lived into the 1950s .

It's no wonder so many of us whippersnapper codgers believe in cowboy diplomacy , walking softly and using that big stick as needed .
