After finally getting the garden planted, I took a day off and went to Medford.
Dropped by Sportsmans Warehouse trying to find a turkey brine kit. No luck anywhere.
As i walked by the primer/powder section I saw a guy with a basket of primers so I stopped to take a look.
I bought 1K each large rifle and large pistol primers for $24 a thousand.
The powder stock was very low.
I stopped by a small shop that had a lot of powder/primers.
Powder was $36 a lb and primers $39 a thousand. No wonder they had a lot!!!!!

FWIW - it LOOKS like we are actually going to have a gun show here next weekend. Regular scheduled show. I assumed all cancelled til further notice, but saw a billboard ad for the show that also mentioned the social distancing crap. So, I ASSUME it will go on. We shall see!

Not to be picky oscarflyer, but the first case we had in Fairbanks was a 65 year old marathon runner who competes in national meets like the Boston marathon. He is super fit. He almost died, and was tested and diagnosed early. He's recovered, but appears to have permanent lung damage.. I'd don't know about you, your 10 years younger than me, but I get winded easily. I believe this lock down stuff was totally done wrong. Your chances of getting the virus a small, but, you don't want it.
My wife is 72, 5 years my senior, I won't take a chance with her getting sick. I will Error on the side of caution, it's a small price to pay for the safety of the people you love. We live pretty remotely, so our exposure is minimized. My 22 year old granddaughter has diabetes, my 6 year old granddaughter has Hoshimodo disease or whatever, but they are at risk.

The SARS virus killed 60 thousand I believe in 18 months, this virus has killed 100 thousand in 4 months. Mostly old folks. I have said this virus has not been handled correctly, but who really knew. Between ignorance and political BS, hard to really know. Be careful and think of the folks who could be hurt. Which you are close to that age group.

Not wanting to lecture, but, being careful might be a small price. I'm envious, I need a good gun show. Have fun. Buy a leverguns.

Spot on. Coulda woulda shoulda + sensationalist news + general pandalirium = who knows, but it is what it is and you don't want it. Prevention is relatively easy, don't forget your safety glasses and to wash your mask after wearing it.

Now for the important stuff.
I'm going to finish the platform for my shooting shed, well the temporary one anyway. It will be temporary until it's replaced, which could be a long time. 8' x 10' platform, with a salvaged tent frame from a collapsed green house from the In laws.

Actually I have two frames from collapsed green houses. Snow load and deferred maintenance of frozen stuff during a long winter. I was happy to remove the damaged frames. Out of the two I have enough parts to make one stout frame. By cutting the kinked ends off a frame that started out as a 10' x 10' with three legs pre side. I'm cutting it down to 8' wide by 10' long with 5 legs per side. The purlins and ridge will be reduced from a 5' span to 30" or half. Add on some ratchet straps to stiffen and tension the frame for strength. I will tarp the frame frame and fasten tight with roll up sides and ends. We'll see how the coverings go.
Everything is salvaged materials except the ground contact 4 x 6 x 12 ft used for the skid.

Next I'm looking at moveing some "stuff", to the dump so I can drop 5 large trees next to my shop. One is dead 2 are dying, 2 are in the way. Have to plan dropping these carefully, by roping off to try not do destroy storage sheds, electrical service entry, and my shop. All 5 trees are in line with this big one.

Want you all to know that, in a previous post, I was not being a whiner, nor am I lazy. It's just that this dictator-imposed house arrest has taken a lot of wind out of my wife's and my physical and mental sails. The state's, too, for that matter.

Anyway, I just finished washing my wife's car. It was 66-degrees in the shade, but the driveway was in full sun and it felt like 100 and the sweat was pouring off me!

Now, to rustle up some lunch and more water.

The one thing they don't tell you about Covid-19 : mask or not there is still the human breath "contrail" !...Supposed to be 23 feet! Cross someone's path within that distance and you are breathing the same moist air! This is how folks that have not been near a Positive case get to be a positive case!

I need your weather reports

The one from this morning (partly cloudy, warm, light breeze), this afternoon (hot and humid, mostly clear), or this evening (heavy thunderstorms, torrential rain, wind gusts exceeding 50 mph, 61⁰)??

Try to find Emiril's turkey brining recipe, it's the best I've ever seen and have tried several. OJ, vinegar, spices, and salt. Throw it in ice in an ice chest for 24 hours and roast in the oven. It helps if you start it face down and finish face up, covered in foil of course.

I got to chose between a single stage Lee press, a bedside single gun safe, 75 bucks in 22 lr ammo or this.
I have an old junk pot that I had rigged. But boy this is nice. It even has an adjustable ledge to rest me molds on while filling. So me poor arms don't get tired.

I love these longer daylight days. You can get more done. My 200 yard .22 range was terribly rutted/pocked by moles. So rough it was difficult to mow and the mower threw more dirt than a rototiller. I took a section of a fine drag and basically debrided the the range. Peeled the moles tunnels open, really ripped it up. Then we got an inch of rain so I took a cutipacker over the entire range, twice. That hammered the mole humps down. Much smoother now. A regular lawn roller just doesn't cut it.
Put everything away and went on a 150 mile motorcycle ride. First day it hit the low 80's since early October. Got home and tried to change oil in a Yamaha Grizzly. Got all set to put oil back in only to find out the half a two gallon jug of 10-40 Valvoline was actually used coolant from the hot rod. 30 mile round trip to Wal-Mart. Try and find decent conventional oil in 10-40 or 15-40.
Got home had a semi screw up and had to drain two quarts of fresh oil back out of the crankcase and start over. Some profanity was heard, but I kept the volume down and since the neighbors live 800 yards away, I don't think it counted as a public disturbance.
Tennessee whisky is the unwinder of choice tonight. Some times you get the Dickel, some times the Dickel gets you.

it tried to rain, it wasn't even enough to get the sidewalk wet, but it was enough to make the grass wet so the G-boy couldn't help me out in the garden since he didn't bring any boots when he come over for the day.
I managed to get some flowers planted in various spots and the Juneberry bush found a spot.
not exactly where I wanted it, but that area is gonna get all changed up next spring and I couldn't fit it in between the major ice/snow line and the walkway that'll be there... eventually.

I got all the Pepper plants up potted to wait out the next month or so before they can hit real dirt and split up some of the Herb plants to await their final home.
[I really need to get that new shelf done out in the green house]

just for JW.
I know your mouth is burning just from hearing these names.
Ghost, scotch bonnet, Thai, White Habanero, Scorpion.
those are pretty much what come [shrug] so that's kind of what I'm stuck with [plus a few late bloomers that I have no idea what they are beyond a Pepper of some sort]

I laid out Phase-5 of the yard for Littlegirl when she come to get Barrett and she was not amused.
she was like can't we finish 3 and 3-A before skipping to 5?
yeah,,, that's the plan, but now you see the point of the extra trees, and bushes I'm looking for.

Went out and shot a couple of the old War Horses today to commemorate Memorial Weekend. 1918 S&W M1917 (45 ACP; Brazilian Contract gun), and S&W Victory (orig 38 S&W, converted to 38 SPC).
I do the same, on the Memorial and Veterans Day Mondays.
The local range remains closed, so tomorrow, I'll get out the Garand (receiver dated June '43) and 03A3 (receiver dated January '43, barrel datedFebruary '43), listen to their stories and give them a thank you.

Tell me about it. My Polaris UTV takes 5W-50 motor oil. We have Walmart, Auto Zone and O'Reilly's Auto Parts, in a town of over 12,000 individuals. I have resorted to ordering it by the case, from Amazon.
