A lot of what I can barely hear doesn't interest me anyway. They can shut right up, AFAIC. If I can hear Marie calling me for chow or to help with chores, I'm good.

Telephone band is 50-3500hz. People are turning off audio as background noise and not actually listening. Doesn't help when people speak to walls vs other people. For older folks, not so much hearing range as ear mind connections.

I have to use the speaker mode when talking on my cell phone.
I do not call or answer calls in public places.
I don`t want everyone within 100 feet to hear my conversations.
One of the problems with hearing aids is that the microphone that picks up sound is on top of your ears.
In real life, your ears pick up sound from the side.
Another PITA with masks and hearing aids is that the type of mask I use is the cheap paper ones and when I try to take the mask off the string on them will hook on my aids and pull them off.

Gave up on hearing aides 2 eight years ago. Been sitting in a drawer, ever since. Not worth the trouble, nor the expense. IMO. I have digitals from Costco. They had quite a few adjustable programs, bluetooth connectivity, ability to hook up to your TV and not interfere with other viewers. Had them set up for outdoor use. Eliminates the nuisance wind noise. Had another program to drown out background noises, like in restaurant settings.

Needed to remember to take them out before showering. Almost lost one, while in the woods. Cindy actually found it among the leaf clutter. Couldn't wear them shooting or gun hunting. I prefer to just use Peltor noise canceling ear muffs.

More than half of what comes out of people's mouths, I don't want to hear, anyways. Plus, I've been told, more than once........I have selective hearing.

That sounds much like me. I dunno about frequency ranges, just know I can't sh*t. Any accent or background noise or little kids speaking is out of the question. I've thought long & hard about getting hearing aids, insurance even pick up a good part of the bill but I've heard so much bad about even the good ones I've never pulled the trigger on them. Oh well, the world is quiet & peaceful.

Most people think I'm about deaf because of all the shooting I've done but not so much. Was just about the same long before I did any serious shooting.

Well, I highlighted the real problem; get that cleared up and your hearing will probably improve.

Yep. The elastic string will launch a hearing aid.

To elaborate on my statement earlier about hearing and mind. Took a debate class in HS. Learned that most people when talking expect others to hear what you say. When speaking you want to convey information that is remembered. So often conversations are 'chatter' that you (and I ) tune out. Add poor enunciation ( and true hearing disability) hearing aid sellers get a lot of business. As we get older we pay less attention to what our senses tell us. Reminds me of Artie on Laugh-in, 'ehh, whats that you say?' as he holds the megaphone to his ear. Speaking and listening is WORK.

my wife just got her aids after waiting 2 years for the insurance company, supply company and the Docs, to get everything together.
When she got them she just went and picked them up. No run thru on use, adjustment or anything. No u tube videos on her model.
She cannot here the squealing they make but often it gets so bad It makes my ears hurt and I need to leave the room. She does not know what volume to set them at because she has went without them for so long. Sometimes when she is not stubborn she will let me turn the aids down and the tv up so I can hear it to.

Went to finally build the trusses for my shed last night. Dug everything out and it started raining. Put everything away, it stopped. Been raining off and on ever since. Raining right now. Keeps it up I am throwing my hands up and headed to under a bridge with a fishing pole,
Am getting ready to steel wool and put another coat of linseed on my wifes' gunstock 4 coats in 6 days and still sucking it up, Last coat just got to the point it took a dull sheen in some spots.

Emmett,
Your wife needs to see a competent audiologist. The aids should have been adjusted to amplify the frequencies of her hearing loss. The squealing you hear is feedback can be caused by wax buildup.

One of yesterday's range session rifles was the Loewe produced 1891 Argentine. Sometime in its illustrious past, the barrel was cut down to 24", engineer carbine metal added to the muzzle, a ramp sight base installed along with a Lyman 17A globe sight, and an old(?) Lyman receiver sight added. A super-duper gunsmith turned down the bolt handle, and drilled and tapped the receiver tang in perfect centered alignment with the trigger's forward hump (first stage) and installed a set screw, thereby allowing the trigger pull weight to be adjusted as wanted. I'm not aware of aftermarket 1891 triggers. The national crest was very nicely erased, but other Argentine marks were left untouched, on the stock and some parts.

Sunday, I adjusted the trigger weight to an even 2 pounds, and my unfamiliarity with it showed, yesterday, in 1 1/2" horizontal stringing, but North/South was about 1/4", at 50-yards. Ammo consisted of a beagled Lee 312-185 sized to .314" and 16-grains of 2400. I'm quite happy with the load, so now it'll be a matter of practice, practice, practice.

I really be live it is the I don't give a crap attitude of the only, hearing aid mfg. Fitter our insurance will pay for. She went to one of the best audiologists in the area, and went .
Thru two types of hearing tests so her AIDS could be set up right.
However the insurance had us get the AIDS thru a medical supply company, not the audiologist.

We have no Idea of how to care for them, or clean them so we do not. Afraid to mess them up. Yes their is, a little wax in the tip of the molded piece on the end of the tube just looked. Have no idea how to clean these without hurting them. Can we just wipe them off with alcohol? Use a cue tip? Do they come apart like others, We do not know there is just no info out there and med supplies company is no longer interested in talking to us once they got their money. Heck there is a button on the back of each one, have no clue what it does.Press it it just beeps then you hear a constant click click. Have to open the batteries to turn them off. Med company does not do orientation visits any more because of coved.
We did figure out. After a couple hrs of playing around today. If we set one on 4 and the other on 6 she can hear normal and no squeal.
