there's more people shooting in those pics than we got members here... JK
we actually have 10% of our total [county not city] population as members of the club, I'm sure the [voluntary] 20 dollars a year fee has something to do with it.
I still generally have the whole place to myself if there isn't some sort of shoot going on.

mosied another 4 wheeler trail today, the grouse cooperated for once and seemed to be having a convention along one stretch of the trail.
I limited out in like 5 minutes or less, but missed one I thought sure I hit [it fluttered in like a hit dove] but I finally seen it scooting along on foot faster than I could go up that hill.
I circled back around to the road up to the wheeler and picked up my last one just before I hit the trail, not sure how I hit it directly in the head like I wanted to since it disappeared behind an aspen, which I hit with what looked like most of the pattern on the one side.
guess I snuck in a few pellets... LOL

No bench, no rifle range yet. Shoot from the back deck. Can shoot rifle, but only out to about 40 yards as of yet. Think I've located where my bench will ultimately go; about 30 yards from the machine shop, 10 yards behind my detached garage. Pretty sure it won't be a problem to reach out to 100 yards.

My 100-yard range is a one minute walk from my front door but the fees run over $5,000 annually and nobody other than me ever does any maintenance on it. The up side is it is open 24/7/365 and always has a bench available. Yes, I have used it at night, many times, and in fact have 12-volt target lighting installed.

LOL for the nights you are up wondering about bullet lubes?

Dang, Matt, no berms required there, you can see clear to Missouri with nothing to harm in the way.
Pretty much.
They own over 2500 acres.
All center fire shooting is done to the north.
A bullet would have to travel over 2 miles past the target just to leave the property.

Dues were $50.00 a year when I first joined about 1995.
They are a hundred now. Damn cheap considering the facilities.
Every member has to do a work bond day as well.
Myself, I will usually do pit duty during one of the 1000 yard bench rest tournaments.
Been a few years where I just paid the $100.00 fee in lieu of working a day.
Once I turn 65 the work bond will be waived.
All in all, it is an outstanding club.

For the longest time I just drove out to the National Forest/DNR land that is legally open to shooting. Recently I’ve started using a local private range that is open to the public. The rifle and pistol range is $15.00 per day, with no time limit. They have 7 & 25 yard pistol, 50 yard rim fire, and 100 & 200 center fire.

Annual dues are $150 and there is a 2 to 3 year waiting list.

The forest is free, but requires a 2.5 hour round trip. The range is only twenty minutes from the house.

It’s frustrating that we have so much DNR land near me that is legally huntable, but is shut down to target shooting. Many ignore the law and plink away. I can’t because any legal infraction can affect my employment. I’m not gonna blow my retirement so I can shoot at cans twenty minutes down the road.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
My fees run a grand over Ians, but there are 342 acres and the longest easily used "range" stretches out about 600 yards, maybe a bit more if I'd clear a little brush. Really can't imagine having to load the car up and drive to range and then PAY to use it. Trade offs I suppose.

The torrential rains finally stopped. The sun is out! Won't likely get much over 60F, but I can live with that.

I had to take my fish house in to fix the heater. In the conversation the rep. said that the repair charge was 119$ an hour and that it would probably take 1.5 hours just to check the heater out to see what parts would be needed.
Well my fish house did not stay there.
For just a little bit more than the price of checking it. I could buy a new unit and install it myself. NO THANKS! Kevin

Well, looks like I've got some load workup to do. Son texted that his new Shot Show Special Low Wall 6.5x55 just came in. Said he'd likely pick it up early next week. We weren't expecting it till first of the year. We're leaving the 14th for a mule deer buck/antelope doe hunt. Hoping to have it ready to go.

140 grain Gamekings with a book medium charge of H414 works well for me, but if it's go8ng to be really cold on the hunt you might want to look at Varget or one of the other Hodgdon "Extreme" medium-slow rifle powders.

I am a member of a gun club that has a range with covered shooting line with 10 yard pistol only steel bullet trap, 25, 50 yard and adjacent firing line 100, 200 and 300 yard targets. Membership is $100 per year and there is usually no one there but me when I go during "working hours". Almost like a private, exclusive range.

The fly in the ointment though is that it is 27 miles away. I am not equipped to load at the range so fiddling with loads is difficult.

The good news is that my son has bought 100 acres in good hunting country and is building a house with a barn which will have a reloading room adjacent to a shooting range. So, I can fiddle away to my heart's content.

Adjusted the garage door rails so it stays closed. Found a wallpaper's stand behind the tool box. Perfect rifle rest for stand shooting. Stable with adjustable roller height & foot & 1/2 width.

Started a "crock pot" full of Beef Heart Stew! Trying fiver's trick by putting a whole Scotch Bonnet in it!
When it is done tomorrow I will cut the Bonnet open and drain the internal juice into the mix!...Scary to me!

Only got two 6.5 bullets picked up so far. 120 BT and 129 Hornady Interlock. He said he had a couple hundred Lapua cases. I've got a little bit of H4350, 8 lbs of Accurate 4350, a bit of H4831sc, and Magpro to work with. I don't expect extreme cold, but it will definately be cooler than 90s like here right now.

Club dues here on our little homestead are just a shade over 1/4 of what they demand from Ian. But then again, I don't have night time target lighting.:sigh:

brother in law is in town... the G-boy packed his back pack so he could go [I didn't know we were going anywhere] they are both coming over tomorrow,, so I guess we are going somewhere.

think I will take them up in the middle of the bow hunters and just shoot some guns at some trees or rocks or something.
I kinda need to spot check at least one of the deer rifles anyway.... I guess, I dunno why.

Ranges .
I have Mom's back yard about 25 minutes away . Built up a nice platform but the bench leaves a lot to be desired , just 100 yd .
I have a really nice public range with about 125 yd to the berm , nice shooting bench's , gun racks , sitting bench's , all covered , a clays trap thrower , dumpsters and out house . No fees or gates about 8 miles into the forest . Its about a 45 min drive the first 20 miles go pretty fast but the last 8 not so much , it USFS road so it is what it is .

Today wasn't bad . I've been just irritated about nothing in particular for a week now and it was really starting to make me mad ........ Stop laughing you know darn well what I meant .
I thought about taking the Arisaka sisters out today but that got sidetracked pretty early on .
I went and took a couple of pictures of the pile of metal building I bought just before we made the big move out here and an hour later we were putting it on a guys trailer and an hour after that I was out of several nagging situations that have been pretty unhappy of late .
I've never handled banded 100s before , they sure don't take up much space .
Went ahead and knocked about 10% off the principal off the house loan , creative financing , the bank couldn't do a loan so low on a upper mid value home because of some specific repairs but were happy to do a signiture loan with a 50% collateral in CDs ........ I don't get it , but the house is free and clear and it costs me 1.6% apr for the loan .

I got home and Ms had a fair dinner ready . My back has decided I don't really need to have full load bearing on my left leg . I think it might be clutch deprivation but I thought the tractor would keep that in check , apparently not .
A little rocky rye straightened that out .......or possibly removed the caring feature .

Spent a pleasant couple hours with the neighbors wife ...... She doesn't get out of the house much chasing a little bitty and he was doing Dad duty naps . Sweet kid , her son's cute too . Just chit chat and leaning towards a dinner evening . We don't really know anybody so company where we can get it I guess .

The local gunshow is today and tomorrow. Bigger (more tables) than ever, advertised as 370+ tables, two exhibition buildings on the county fair grounds. While I was setting up last night, I seen a few vintage boxes/bricks of 209 primers for $60. I seen 5 tables with bricks of pistol/rifle primers, but didn't see any priced less than $100/1k...not everyone was setup yet. I need some SPP and am hoping to see some today, but my personal limit is $70/1k, so I suspect I'll not be happy.
