well today sucks.
took the wife and got her a fishing license, hauled the boat down to the lake and it decided not to run.
checked things over and jumped the solenoid which got it started,,,,, for a minute.
about the time it started spitting water it died again.
I fiddled with it a minute and decided to take it to the boat mechanic, which just happened to be all the way home then another 70 miles to the shop.
there wasn't even any idea when they would get to it, just take it around back and drop it,,, we'll call you.
so I hauled it around back and triple parked it between a couple of boats that hadn't been registered in about 2 decades.

Got some hay in the barn Monday. Went pretty well except for my having to re-learn that bale baskets don't like right angle turns. Why I cant remember that over a winter I don't know. I should hang a reminder sign in the basket I guess. But we got some hay in, now it's supposed to rain for a week. Hung the PTO unit back onto that tractor yesterday. One shaft that is supposed to have end play you take out via shims on a cap doesn't have any, so I'll likely be taking it off again. My wife, who was going to finally take a summer off after 30 some years of teaching, has been asked to work a couple days a week because no one else wants to work the summer. The money is nice but she needs to rest.

Man, that really sucks, fiver. They are booked out 2 to 6 weeks around here, I've heard. Had ours out a few times now, only for refurbishment testing. Should be a great fishing boat, if it's ever done. Just put 3 new batteries in it. 77 lund pike boat deluxe 18' single console, now with a 96 merc 75 on it. Several more refurb projects & she'll be ready to fish. Pretty darn fun to just ride for now though.

What kind of boat/motor caused the sorrow?

Got the big trailer unloaded .
The barndominium pad was supposed to be 60² it's closer to 45×60 ....... I got the corners set and squared . I'm hugging the high edge , but lost all of the upper driveway . Well, at least until I cut some more driveway and bury some of the red clay mud in shale gravel .

it's a 30 hp Evinrude, on a 14-6 aluminum wide hull
I had a handful of boats there for a while including an air boat.
I was running a tri-hull and a smaller 14' aluminum as a pretty good tandem but it was hard to put the tri-hull in by myself and the smaller aluminum only had a 9.9 on it so wasn't quite enough in the wind and it would just skate over the water if a breeze come up. [it was nice to row around if I wanted to though]
I ended up with this boat about 4-5 years back and it's just right for 2 people and a dog, it scoots along just fine at about 22-23 MPH loaded with about 450 lbs plus the normal gear and extra gas, but isn't too flighty if I'm by myself and running light.

I guess I could throw some weight in the front of the canoe and take that if I really need a boat, but it looks like it'll be trout and cat fish from the bank for a while.
I need some more trout to smoke anyway, every time I do a couple of fish they seem to disappear from the fridge a little bit at a time before I get a good chunk for lunch.

That sounds eerily similar to our boatcapades a few years back. Bought 2 boats sold 2 boats & still had a boat at the end of the year.

I had a Johnson 25 on my 16.5 Lund Rebal. Good all around motor, but it was getting wore out. Decided to put a 4 stroke 40 hoarse Sasuki on the boat. I way over powered the boat. Really good high speed but very poor trolling motor. I can't get it to troll below 1.5 miles per hour. Most dealers just tell me to use bigger drift sock to slow it down but i don't want to run one every time i want to troll.

Must be trolling with crawlers to go that slow. I usually troll at 2.2 mph......... as fast as the 24 volt electric will push the barge-a-toon, without a head wind.

Nice trailer, John, best kind!

I took delivery of 2310' of high tensile game fence this morning before work, got it all situated where I can start putting it up around my property. Just in time for summer! At least I won't have to move any snow to roll it out. Now I just need to drill about 200 holes in rock for the T-posts.:headbang:

Trailer? Ain't no wheels on that boat dock. Float the boat in, open valve, air compressor fills air tanks and lifts boat out of the water.

Don't forget to soak the applewood in water before using - makes much better flavoring and doesn't burn so hot. Me, fixing spare fridge (~35 yr old) that had the defrost stat go out. Then it started making noise. Darn, think it is a plastic part vibrating when the fan starts. It cools freezer side to 20F and fridge side to 40F in 1/2 hr so compressor is still good.

no doubt there.
I got to looking at some of the trailers on some of the older boats the other day and the way they were built seems kind of odd to me.
some of them were so heavy they looked like they outweighed the boat by 4-500 lbs and could haul an early 70's ford pickup without stressing the axles.

If I had to trailer the barge-a-toon, I would never have bought it. Marina is 10-15 minute from my front door. All docks have to float, because the Army Corps of Engineers fluctuates the water level, daily for flood control. There is very little waterfront "owned" property. What little there is, is "grandfathered". Pretty much two choices...............rent a well, at one of the several Marinas, or trailer your boat. The "lift" is an option and is owned by me.

your trailering a boat around here.
many of the 'lakes' are either located on a ranch but open to the public because the public paid for the dam, or are on public ground.
the ones on public ground are surrounded by mountains or swamps or deserts, and they want you to pay to launch a boat on them.
the ones with private land surrounding or abutting against them have free launch ramps.

the only docks we have are for launching and loading your boat.
you can camp by some of them, but not tie your boat to the dock and leave it for any period of time.
someone would just untie it and kick it off into the breeze if you left it like that anyway.

Norfork Lake "fun facts".

https://www.arkansas.com/lake/norfork-lake/30

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norfork_Dam

Lake is over ten miles long, with over 550 miles of shoreline covering 22,000 acres. Goes about 3-4 miles into Missouri. Our marina is in the lower 1/4 of the lake....... approximately three miles from the lower dam and the town of Norfork. Depth varies..............main river channel can be 200' deep, depending on rainfall. Normal pool is 563' and the last couple of years, it's been at or near "flood stage" of 578 feet.

I normally fish, south, towards the dam. However, Rick mentioned that he hasn't seen any of the northern portion........until last week. Went out and remedied that situation, to a degree. He got to pilot the barge under the two highway bridges that span the lake. Roughly, the mid point of the lake. Went past Robinson Point campground, where Smokeywolf stayed, when he was here last Summer.

neat lake there.
it looks like you could fish up and down the whole thing and never really learn it's in's and out's.

I have 3-4 favorite spots on my main 3 lakes.
I spent a lot of non productive day's figuring things out.

What are you going to use for drilling the rock? Got a few spots I have to do that and haven't come up with a good answer that doesn't involve pallets of cash.
