Sometimes I just ask why...

So, I have decided I want a tang peep on my Rossi Rifle in 45 Colt.

Anyone who has a Rossi knows that well the sights suk.

I replaced them with proper Winchesters. Only the dovetails are also crap. So the Winchester sights are not real tight. I made them work... But they are not durable. I have fit the front to proper tight and dureable. The rear is still loose. At least too loose. Also I aint gettin you ger and sights are harder to see. Answer; A TANG PEEP!!

Marbles has a tang peep made for the Rossi as altho the Rossi is a copy of the 1892 Winchester.... Its tang sights dont properly fit. Any how the proper made Marbles are available only Marble's decided to NOT INCLUDE the mounting screws that are required to mount the peep... Looking I find NO ONE including Marbles so I can buy the peep.... Just not mount it.:headbang:

I ran across Steves Guns site. He has the peep instock a s shows the screws with the peep. I have emailed but not gotten a reply. My buddy says he has not been able to contact anyone there but they seem to be filling orders. SO I took the chance a d ordered this tang peep from Steves.

Rossi used to put the longer tang site screws in the box with the 24" rifles.
anyway I'd have checked the Navy Arms site to see if they still had any because I'd lay money Rossi surely ain't got none.

oh, practice holding your thumb flat while your waiting, and make darn sure the sight is tight at the bottom where it folds down.....;)

I have a nice scar on my thumb from a Shiloh 45/90 ladder tang sight. Nothing about it is round except the aperture. Anyway the lesson was learned immediately.

Put a Marbles on my .357 Rossi/EMF -- think I ordered the front screw from Marbles.

There are a couple of mods that replace the Rossi bolt safety with a peep sight , one is a dovetail between the bolts that takes a studded ring .

Nice CW!
I just received a Marbles tang sight for my original 1885 38-55. Have not installed yet. Not a fan of tang sights, but this gun will be used from the bench most of the time.
Now if anyone here knows how to take a brand new shiny tang sight and age it about 120 years, please post directions. Something shiny like that on a brown gun....

CW,
I have that sight on my .357 Rossi/EMF and like it a lot. I do find that the elevation lock nut loosens and when retightening it the elevation adjuster is apt to move, so I'm thinking about adding a wee lock washer if I have one small enough.

Strip, plug the bore, boil (or steam) the whole rifle, card that brown stuff off, then rust blue it with Mark Lee Express blue until it matches the sight. Don't file out the pits and don't polish it.

Greetings
I would drop the sight in any type of rust remover and get the blue off. Next a good soak in apple cider vinegar until the steel sight color is near that of the 1885. I have used battery acid to get a fast overnight rust "patina" color.
Or a half crummy coat of "browning solution" as on muzzleloaders.

Ian, in three words:
Not A Chance.
This is an all original Winchester High Wall in good condition. It has simply aged to a nice brown patina. If it is refinished in anyway it destroys the value as a collector piece. Yes it's on the lower end of a collector piece, but I won't take it lower.
Rather then alter the entire rifle I'm look to alter a $140 new sight.
I'll repeat, not a chance.
