I have only used Sage as a source for gas checks. Wanting to get my hands on some .452 plain base gas checks. They are not in stock and are not producing them at the moment.

If someone has another source for plain base, I would greatly appreciate the input.

Also, if someone that makes, or has them could sell at least 50 or so, up to 5000. Fifty will do me for now but willing to buy a bag of 5000 if that is what it takes.

Or work out a trade for 223 brass; 30 caliber copper or aluminum, gas checks. Whatever.

Just to see if that is what I need to go with. That would be great.

I can get a punch set, but do not really want to invest in tooling to make them for just one project, untill I know if they will do what I need.

I have some Hornady generic 45 caliber copper gas checks (Hornady part number 1740) that I use on 45-70 cast bullets. If these would work let me know and I'll forward a 100 for experimentation.

Can’t help you with .452 PB gas checks, sorry. I make PB gas checks for .30 & .35 cal.

Some general observations regarding PB gas checks in bottleneck rifle cartridges:

- Lubed PB bullets with such checks will have their load tolerance increased to the «16-1800fps window»
- Lubed PB bullets with PB checks have an accuracy potential similar to an identical bullet with regular GC

- PB checked bullets with polymer overcoat will have load tolerance similar to powder coated PB bullets with no check whatsoever
- PB bullets with polymer overcoat and no check, seem to shoot a bit better than similar bullets with PB check underneath the coat
-I have observed that 70- 80% of recovered PBGC bullets have lost the check (recovered from snow); significance unknown

My conclusions are
1) PB checks are useful for lubed bullets
2) PB checks add nothing but work load if you’re powder coating your bullets

These are my observations; others might get different results, of course.
Good luck with your project, Mitty!

I will probably just wait on sages If I can not find exactly what I want. It is for a bottom shelf project anyways.

I have a GC 45 cal RN mould , I'm sure we could come to some sort of an arrangement of mutual benefit if you're so inclined . I'm not above even a lend/lease .

I will keep that in mind. I am basically in the gatherer mode for a future project. I have some ( a lot) plain base 10 BH. 250 grain PC already. Was going to start off with those. With and without gas checks under a few different powders. In My AR250 bush. Just to see for myself, a few things.
It's a ways in the future, probably next winter, before I will get some other projects cleared out.
Still playing with my AR Elvis project, trying different powders working at less then the 3 moa I have so far accomplished, on a slick side plain base powder coated bullet pushin' 3k fps. Plus developing a few boring 9 mm loads.

WHo knows maybe Sage will have some before then.

A lot of options. Definitely going to put them in my source book.
They just do not make a plain base aluminum check with a .452 I D.
This is what I am looking for.
