SPG v. NRA 50/50

I don't need it enough to even come close to justifying a dedicated lubersizer just for BP cartridge loads. The bullets do need to go through the sizer. I can simply back off the screw to eliminate the pressure in the reservoir and not apply the lube while sizing the bullets – no problem there.

It would be nice (but not absolutely necessary) if I could apply the lube to the bullets while sizing them (sort of the whole purpose of that machine) but I don’t want to remove the contents of the lubersizer and put SPG in place just to apply lube to 50-100 bullets every 4-5 months or more.

The options are clear and JonB probably has the simplest solution. In a perfect world……it would be nice if I could just get away with 50/50

BTW- these are bullets for .40-60 WCF and being used in a 1876 Winchester.

I cookie-cuttered my 44 and 32 bullets with old fired cases I cut the bases off from. Flood-lubed, let it cool, cut them out. An old small frying pan from a junk store was my melt vessel, Coleman stove was the heat source. Like you, I wasn't going to set a lube-sizer up with SPG. I still have the pan, though I haven't used it in a while. SPG costs the earth, and is almost liquid at 105*. Kind of a PITA in my climate.

Rather than start another thread since this is closely related, a friend at Wilton has been using a Schuetzen lube in his 32-40 CPA, but with 2400 powder. We had a discussion about lubes affecting accuracy, something I learned here when I first started trying to zero in on why my 03 was throwing flyers, and he decided to try an experiment. He loaded some rounds with the Schueutzen lube and then hand lubed 10 rounds with Lyman's lube. He said that the group size at 100 yds was reduced to 1 MOA or less.

I mentioned my shooting partner struggling at the last centerfire match with crazy flyers with no consistency to where or when. He has been using SPG lube. He cleaned out is sizer and it going to try either NRA 50/50 or White Lable Carnuba tomorrow. I won't be there, so I'll not know the results until next Sunday. And next Sunday is another centerfire match.
