Stand or sit?

I stand when casting. Years back I used a bar stool to sit on but haven't used it in 15 years. My bench is a bit low to bottom pour without leaning back to see the stream enter the cavity. Bench is about perfect for ladle use so I'm happy with it.

My casting area is set up for use standing. I set it up that way since I stand, I didn't let the set up dictate that I stand.

Are you a stander or a sitter? By design or because it works best with your setup?

I designed my hand casting area for standing.
I barely have to stoop a titch to see the stream on 2 pots and it's clearly visible on the other.
when I ladle cast I have a lower bench right next to the main one I work on, since I want to see right into the pot.
I also reload standing up.
I have a stool there I can sit on for some things [single stage work] but my Dillon presses are mounted too high to reach while sitting.

My Star sizer and single stage press are used sitting. The Dillon is set up for standing use.

I stand over the stars so I can work then in a down ward motion pretty quickly.
I can also sit at the end one and do rifle boolits one at a time.
my star table is our old kitchen island which worked out perfectly with it's 3 drawers.

I sit no matter what. Stood for years but too many thousands of running miles, a career standing and working on concrete, and various minor foot, knee, hip, and back injuries, none of which will get any better as I continue to get older have started to get to me, so when I built the new setup a few years ago everything is set up for sitting in a secretary's chair to help save what cartilage I have left.

Even before my legs went on strike I sat to cast. Get everything within arms reach and go after it. I learned to wear a leather apron to keep from burning the top of my thighs from lead spatters. Also would get up every half hour or so to fetch more ingots, drink some coffee, get a light snack to keep blood sugar level right. All eating/drinking were well away from the pot and I use a covered coffee mug and wash my hands before I eat. But I do that when I am doing anything in the shop anyway.

I think this is a lot like the ladle/BP discussion, it's mostly individual taste and comfort level. If you can work safely and get good bullets then do it however you like, its your time and your dime.

When I bottom pour pistol bullets from gang moulds I sit, because I can't work the heavy moulds well due to bad elbow. Ladle pouring match and single cavity moulds I stand because it is faster for me. Standing on the rubber mats, listening to classical music and can cast for about 3 hours standing.

Sitter and will probably set up the new bench that way as well. Foot surgeries and too many hours working on my feet over concrete and asphalt to stand for long. I do provide a quick escape route if anything were to go South quickly.

Back in the dark ages (pre ladle) I always sat to cast, How else ya gonna see the spout under the pot? But then the light shown down and a new day was born when the Rowell arrived. Now I happily stand at my pot at a good height to easily pour the shiny stream. Have always stood to load also with the press's mounted at chest height.

Setting. Like Ian, I spent my entire adult working years standing on concrete floors and I design EVERYTHING I do in the shop for a relaxing setting posture, with few exceptions.

I also stand while casting. I ladle pour. I stand when using my Dillon presses but sit when using a RCBS Rockchucker, Go figure

I sit for all casting/sizing/loading activities.
I have my casting bench setup so the bottom pour spout is just about eye level, while sitting on a vintage samsonite folding chair.

I sit for everything but smelting and sizing with RCBS LAM IIs. I have the sizers set up on full size 2x4s that I put in the vice to use and I switch them out depending on which lube I want to use.

I sit while I'm casting !
I suppose I could cast bullets standing, but a nice chair and the casting table at the correct height ( that took a bit of trial and error on the length of the legs ) makes it a pleasureable experience for me.

I drop my freshly cast bullets on a padded surface to my right, the sprues and
reject bullets to my left to be returned to the pot .

By the way, the table is on casters, so it rolls out of the basement and back in easily without any strain on my back ! ! ! And Yes.....that's a cordless phone on my left.
