OK, when the obvious things are not the problem. I would suggest a close look at the muzzle and crown.
One issue is worn rifling at the muzzle due to cleaning, and the other is a damaged or uneven crown.
I would suggest 9 or 10 gr of Unique as a first stab.

thread swerve?
yeeah? no,, LOL.
your gonna have to work a lot harder than that.
real thread swerve is starting a thread about a Ruger GP-100 in 44 special and ending up debating 357 ammo in former 25-20 model 92's then debating rim diameters for the 45 colt and why the 73's never should have been chambered in 45 all in the same thread.
with a smattering of 44 special lighter loads discussed in the middle of the whole thing, but nobody actually discussing the GP-100.
not like that would ever happen here though.

Oh, not us--not ever. It's all "Strict adherence to topicality" on this site. Absitively and posolutely.

Yep, Never deviate any more than a 45 degree angle to the original topic. :)

Well, unless there is something interesting that comes up.

One thing that seems to be unique to 30 Remingtons is a tight bore. My Stevens High Power is a tight .307 maybe closer to .306. I can't understand why lot of 30 Remingtons have tight bores. My old Lyman #44 Manual even has a note about the tight bores in the 30 Remington loads section.

Is that a better diversion?

that works... LOL.

over the years there have been a few different guns made with tight barrels compared to what we would normally expect.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
That Stevens is a gorgeous rifle Arlon! Just beautiful. I hope you can figure it out.

Thread drift? Ha! We LIVE for thread drift!!!

Tight bores- many older references refer to the proper diameter jacketed bullet for a Winchester 30-30 as .309, while all the other 30's are .308. There was quite a bit of differing theory on just what constituted a properly sized bullet for the bore back in the day.
