Still think it was a good idea

Went out the last couple days and cast a few that I probably already have enough of to be truthful. Note however I cast them, not "casted" or "casted up" a few. Anyhow to get to the gist of whatever, I use stacked 10# pots. Just for S&G's first day I refilled the pot with warmed up ingots off the hot plate. 2nd time used both pots. Refill time was about 2 minutes I'd guess and certainly less time consuming by far.

Both pots set at 365° C and noted the bottom pot dropped a whopping 2° C during the process. I remember a letter from Dennis Marshall years back suggesting the idea of stacked pots to me. So far most of the the changes I've made in methods or equipment have come from other folks on forums like this. And I appreciate seeing others ideas nearly daily, most of which I don't maybe use due to no skills in the particular area or their casting needs differ from mine.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
What type of pots are you stacking? I have two Lyman/Saecos I want to stack someday.

easy to stack a LEE over another pot just because of how they are made to begin with.

I found it easier to just use 40 lbs. of alloy in one pot and feed it warm ingots.

I have not tried stacked pots to casted bullets?

I find that by the time my 40# pot is close to empty I am as well.

I stacked a Lee 10 lbs over a Lee 20. Worked okay just turned the base around on the 10 lbs. pot.

In all my years casting. I can remember ONE TIME emptying the 20# pot twice in one casting session. (So I cast nearly 40# is bullets) Like Brad says... generally, the caster runs out first. ;)

The middle third of the pot is the sweet spot. Best I ever got out of a full Lee 4-20 was 16 lbs of wheelweight bullets. If I'm doing a marathon session indoors I fire up the RCBS or little dipper pot and melt ingots in that and top off the casting furnace with a ladle.
