Stock Work

My friend Steve had a S/S , 28 ga. shotgun that was giving him some problems.
The comb on the stock was too high.
He wanted 1/2 " removed from the top of the stock and the stock refinished.
All work is completed.
He can pick it up whenever he would like.

-------------------------------------------------

The 1st few photos show me removing about 1/2 " of wood off of the top of the comb of the stock. This will offer the shooter better sight alignment with the rib and bead.

Once that is all done, the top of the comb get a soft radius
and the pore filling and finishing begins.

Here is the " finished product ".

I have one of those in 12-gauge, very finely finished guns, but not as nice as that hand-rubbed wonder there.

Nice work. You would never know any wood was removed.

You have done a fantastic job, on a beautiful piece of wood. Looking at a piece of wood like that, is a little like gazing into the camp fire at night. I never tire of it.

Ben, so many folks today have never seen an example of what has for some years now, been referred to as "old world craftsmanship". You are still providing examples of that.

Fine looking gun and the stock rework is undetectable, as usual.
How old is that gun? It looks new, but I am unaware of any modern double
side-by-sides with hammers.....maybe this is one of the high dollar Brit guns?

It certainly looks expensive and that wood is really top drawer stuff.

Clearly a fine quality shotgun, top drawer wood. I have no idea what the finish was like before, but it is sure perfect now.

What type of Walnut you think it is Ben? I'm guessing Turkish. In any event, it's a beautiful stock.

You bet..........., the owner of the shotgun was thrilled with the finish on his shotgun.
