Very interesting, I watched that a while back. Be nice to have some of those tools.

Skill set is far more important than the tools.

I have never seen anyone checker a stock freehand, without the stock being in some kind of cradle. Talk about skill set. I have checkered stocks and having both the tool and the stock free to do their own thing would be something I wouldn't want to tackle. Really nice work. Beautiful rifle.

I made a stock cradle because thats what all the books said I had to use. Never did figure out how to use the thing, much easier for me to hold the work in one hand and the tool in the other.

it'd end up looking more like the tree branch it come from than a gun stock if I even thought about touching it.

Ben Do you know what was being done..
The sequence when the stock was saturated with a past. An then had the heat gun dry the surface. Was that done to raise the grain and or fill the pours?

I reworked a warped & oversized Boyd’s stock couple months ago

I like how it turned out. But I learned it was not “laminated” it is plywood. Just as pretty! But no where near as stable as solid walnut...56F2085E-1B5A-4393-ACD9-382032667934.jpegEF7CE9D1-C287-45A6-AABA-558DD90D2ECA.jpeg74079E77-6DFB-4945-BECD-70F89F4A79CA.jpeg

You are a skilled woodworker.
I like the subtle rise in cheekweld.
It gives the contender a whole new look.
A 30-30 I'm assuming.
