Stopped by the 'candy store'

I know folks have trouble finding metal to work with, and we are fortunate in KC to have
Metal By The Foot. It is about a forty minute drive one way from my house, so I don't go just
for the heck of it but they have a lot of stock. Check out their very good web site. No idea
if they ship.
But...coming back from a customer site visit today, put MBTF only a slight detour off my route,
so I did stop to get some aluminum rod that I need for a project.

I thought you might like to see their cutoff/scrap bins. Prices are a std price per lb, larger piece
are marked, esp in aluminum bin. I have made various projects entirely from the scrape bins, a
touch cheaper than cutting charge plus the material.

A couple of pix.

Nice to have relatively near by. For scale, largest square steel tube is 6"x6" and in the aluminum bin the
big tube is about 6" OD and 1" wall thickness, by eyeball. the chunks marked $7.50 are an inch thick, the big
square slab on the left is $21.44 and about an inch thick, too.

Industrial Metals (a huge metal supplier) in CA has a very large room full of such bins. All cut offs & such from filling customers orders. The types of different metals and sizes & shapes is mind boggling. It's where I got the seamless thin wall 1" ID tubing for my lube mold plus a bunch of other bits & pieces for various projects.

Sorry Brad, didn't think of it. Next time you are in KC, we'll go and let you get some
stuff for your mill.
