Switching powders

37 g of Varget behind a "trued" 130 Lee gets a touch hard to handle from a torque standpoint in a 7-08,pretty durn lite sporter.

The rig has two scopes on Weaver mounts.Have swapped many times with zero checks and am good on swapping scopes(with 0 check).I have two proven loads, two scopes, and two different powders.

The question is when changing loads, which one uses Varget, the other is IMR4198....... what,if any problems should I keep an eye out for if the barrel dosen't cleaned between?

I've not had much of any issue switching powders, a bench rest shooter may argue that point but it's just not been a problem for me. I've had more issues switching lubes without cleaning the last lube from the bore.

Changing powders can be an issue, at longer ranges and with jacketed. It can cause elevation issues at say 600 in a HP match.
At 100 with cast? I doubt it will be noticed.

Now changing lube like Rick mentioned, can be a big issue.

Try 3031 instead of 4198, lite jax load, keep the whompum on the receiving end and be easy on the launch, launcher, and launchee.

I've tried 3031 in several different applications with no joy. Using good load data. Can't understand why, terrible accuracy. Got a couple of pounds and no place to go.

4198 is a sweetheart load.1-4X20 Luepold that is lightning fast beer can hits @100.No complaints,heck.... there's a 2g window for vg acc.

So,if I had to predict, the larger load window of the 4198 will tolerate more issues. The Varget being less window, would see any effects.I just want my plinking load back,so no clean,no nothing. Then after shooting a cpl bxs or whatever, will clean and see if the Varget goes back to it's cold brrl p.o.a. X hits.I can live with that.....
