Just got back from the Tulsa Gun Show.
I visited Ed's Contender's Table in the show ( up on the upper level ).
He had a " bazillion " Thompson Contender barrels for sale.
I bought this one, a 12 " heavy bull barrel, 45 ACP, made in the T/C Custom Shop.

I have about a dozen bullet moulds for the 45 ACP and a 50 lb. box of WCC empty brass.

I have about a 100 of each of these cast and ready to test.
I figure the 45 ACP out of a closed breech, 12" barrel will behave in a similar fashion to the .44 Spec. I don't plan on " hot roding " this one however.

I have 700 X, B'Eye, Unique, Power Pistol, AA # 2, AA # 5, Amer. Sel.
This will keep me busy for some time to come.

My friend yesterday asked me ....." Where does the magazine fit into that one ? "

My #4 rolling block eats ammo faster than my 10-22 or my Model 06, funny how quick you go through it when you're not having to stop shooting and stuff magazines. My money is on the Lyman bullet shooting best.

Ben, that rear sight is the best one TC ever made. They came with three extra rear blades. They made front one that had several different inserts for height.
Unless they changed somthing on the rear, the numbers will get smaller going up, go figure.

Yes, this rear sight appears to be built like a Swiss watch.
Nothing cheap about this rear sight.
I like it.

WHAT !!! No 230 Round Nose?

Or I bet the 250 GR Colt Bullet would do just fine in that rig !

Dan,

I have this micro band Lee 230 gr. It and about 5 other designs are listed for " future testing ".

Ben,
That is the mould I have for my 1911........love it!
Be very interested in how a 45 auto shoots in that barrel

To make it feel right take the empty case from the barrel and toss it on the ground to the right. Throw a few over your shoulder for good measure. Don't want the 45 brass to feel mistreated!

That should be a good shooter.

Limlike my Contender but will admit that my hand gets worn out opening the action after a while.

Brad,

I'm fortunate, my T/C opens fairly easy.
I looked through my .45 cal. pistol moulds this morning, I found one that goes back to about 1974 or so. I was a little younger man the day I bought this one.

This mould cast fine bullets.
Good in my Ruger 45 ACP / Long Colt revolver, and hopefully this new T/C as well.

The Lee 230 T / Cone, T/L has always shot well for me.

I took my new T/C , 12" bull barrel Contender , 45 ACP to the range today.
It shot great ! !
It left me with the question........ " If I take sighting error out of the equation, just how good can the 45 ACP shoot ? "

So, I came home and put some glass on the barrel.

By the way, I'm shooting this one off sand bags, not free hand.

Knowing what my Ruger 45 convertible can do I would have to shoot 100 yd groups just to see. I need a 14” maximum bbl.
