Technical difficulties

Going on about a month now, all the advanced editing features of this site have become disabled on my S9+, which is the only way I log in anymore. Also, myself and others cannot link our own utoob videos to the site anymore, seems to be about the same time the editing bars went grey for me.

This did not coincide with a phone update, and subsequently updating my phone didn't help.

Any ideas?

I asked Kevin to take a look. May take a day of thirty but Iknow he will have an opinion.

Is it only from your phone, or do you encounter the same issue from a computer?

The reason I ask is that it helps pinpoint whether it's a phone or phone compatibility issue, or a forum software issue.

So, here's what I think is happening - YouTube changed something and it broke the way that XenForo handles YouTube links. Google is notorious for making changes that break things.

Let me go kick some things....

Yep. Looks like a compatibility issue on the videos. Applying the latest patch to the forum software made it work with whatever Google did.

Thanks, Kevin. Google likes to reset things like notifications and subscriptions, too. I figured it was a link coding issue.

Now, what about Android software not enabling the editing bar? Something changed and I don't think it was my phone.

I don't currently log in on a PC.

I don’t have a Mac.

I do have a Microsoft Surface and am pretty happy with it. Kinda like a laptop, kinda like a tablet. Mine runs full version Windows. Memory is a bit lower than I like but with a micro SD slot I can boost that. I like the fact it has a USB port so it plays nice with a portable hard drive. It goes on trips with us for viewing photos we take and dumping hem the the portable hard drive.

PM Kevin, he is very good at recommendations based upon what you need, not what they say you need.

No clue. I don't own an Android device with which to test. Altogether possible it's yet another "Google changed something" type thing - Android is, after all, a Google product.

Fixed it! Clicked the three dots on the right by the search window and the drop-down has a symbol with two brackets [ ] which is in black, so I clicked it and everything is back....including the large text which I selected on my phone but wouldn't work before. I don't know what the brackets mean but it's like switching between BB code and plain text.

Someday someone is going to come up with something dead simple that doesn't need updates every other day and that just WORKS and stays the same. They won't make a single dime on it, but they will have a loyal following!

There will always be updates, only way to not have them is to eliminate progress. Things have gotten a bit better over the years, 20 years ago you could go to the store any buy the very latest newest high tech stuff available and by the time you got it home and plugged it in you had the old model.
