Yes, the Hardinge Toolroom Lathe is/was the standard, but the pinnacle of accuracy in a production toolroom lathe was the Monarch EE.

that's the same price as the harbor freight mini-lathe.
I keep looking at those and they seem cheap[ly] built and sloppy.

I kind of have my doubts as to whether I could get within .001 with one of them.
if you think you can get under .001 with this tool then your good enough for the hobby industry.

The HF one can't hold a candle to the only slightly more expensive Grizzly G0765.

yeah,, I figure for maybe 3-400$ more I can just about double the usefulness and options.
either way tooling, and room...
