The 30-30

Shot the H&R today at 80 yards from the bed of my truck resting the forearm in my left hand. Standing like that isn't steady but it is what it is. The load is RCBS 30-180-FN & 22 grains of IMR 3031. Fired 2 shots & after a scope adjustment fired 2 more. The group is 2 inches. Not bad for a bargain basement rifle & 3X scope.

I've owned a couple of these H&R rifles. While they were priced cheap, they were shooting right alongside much more expensive bolt action rifles.Well made guns!sad they don't make'em anymore.
I hope somebody will start making them again.

Shame they quit making those. Every one of them I had shot very well and some shot exceptionally well.

Not to detract from that awesome shooting, by the way.:)

BIL bought on in 204 while they were still being made. Chamber was so out of round we couldn't even force a fired case into the sizing die. Hold one up and it was easy to see it was egged. Got his money back.

I loaded some light 30-30 Win. loads for my 10 yr. old grandson, Trevor.
Neck sized brass with 5.9 grs. of Promo with a plain base cast bullet .
Fired out of a Rem. Model 788.
Accurate " # 315 clone " plain base bullet, sized to .311.
Fairly accurate load, pleasant on the shoulder and ears.

Ben was that the brass mold you had Tom make, with the bands a little larger? I bought a brass,315 2, cav. from Al and immediately wish I had gotten one from Tom like yours

The 30-30 round is an American Classic and for good reason. It has the power needed for what most of us do and does it with accuracy and class. It is put up in lever guns, bolt actions and single shot rifles and performs well in all types. It just loves cast bullets with it's long case neck and moderate powder capacity.

You have a great rifle Lynn, so enjoy and keep warm this winter. I take it you have your wood put in for the year.
