Ben,
What an improvement! Beautiful work!

I posted my first recoil pad about 3 weeks ago, I was real proud of it until I saw your pad installed.

I have dealt with that epoxy finish before and it is a bear to remove!

I have a Model 96 Swedish Mauser to which some previous owner had applied an epoxy finish. (The price was right). Once down to bare wood, the rest of the refinishing project was easy and fun.

Fellows,

Epoxy will test your convictions.
I see that many of you are well aware of that.

Best to all of you ,
Ben

Don't care for a flat finish, but do like the satin or 'semi-gloss' finishes such as Ben shows in post #18. I guess I'm one of those rare ones that likes the "piano finish", such as the one Ben produced and shows in his first post.

Beautiful Ben.
If it's a nice piece of wood I'd prefer a shiny finish. If it's plain the satin is more than enough. On a working gun I like the Hogue "Mono Grip" type stock. I've got a stainless 10/22 that has one on it and you can put it on a boat seat and it will stay there all day, provided you don't drop a wet beaver on them. LOL

Ben, can you tell us what brand of stripper you used on the epoxy finish?

For real tuff stripping jobs, swipe some plastic wrap from the kitchen pantry.Wrap up the part after stripper application, keeps it "hot" much longer.

Looks great Ben!!!

Fuller Plast clear has been the std in trad bow manufacturing since,well...forever.A slightly "safer" alternative to epoxy. And for those willing to do a bit of online digging, look up "Massy" finish(epoxy) for use on bows.Gotta remember what we put bow limbs through.Any finish that "can fail",will fail considering the stresses involved.
