The quirks of handgun history

Look up the operation of the Lewis gun. A gas operated light machine gun that holds ammo in a flat drum magazine that revolves like a revolver cylinder.

I have a weird little pistol in the safe--a Steyr Model 1908/34. No pics on hand, Google has photos. It is derived from the Peiper design, which has the recoil spring above the barrel and captive inside the slide. It functions and fires, and Triple K Magazines had a couple spares on hand in the early 1990s when I bought this thing. Remington SP primers are the only make that will fire reliably, and I tone things down to about 750 FPS with Lyman #311252. Historically, one of these pistols was used to assassinate Chancellor Dollfuss of Austria in 1934 by Austrian Nazis.

How about the little Walther PP in 32 auto?. 7-8 rounds and mine in made by Manhurin in France. Never saw but just a few and couldn't understand why they were not more popular. And another "bighter" if not careful. Saw one that had been reworked and one of the things they did was add a sort of beaver tail at the end of the frame to prevent slide bight. And had a set of the old Micro sights installed. And the little PP can be surprisingly accurate as well. Frank

In The Past 50 years the 32 acp has gotten a bum wrap! The 32 acp was a reliable and deep penetrating bullet when it was loaded to the Browning Euro specs. That is why their popularity with turn of the century law enforcement! Now a day folks would rather choose the .380 over the .32 with no good reason. The 32 is more accurate and has deeper penetration then the .380 if loaded properly to the 7.65 Browning spec

Yessir. The principal problem with the 32 ACP in the USA has been its ammunition, downloaded about 20%-25% from its European intensity. It shares this adulteration trait with the 9 x 19 Parabellum. Annoying and illogical--ammomakers live in a very different world than do their products' end users, it seems. They fear lawyers; we fear armed, violent hairballs.

I will not state my loads in my .32 acp pistols but the american Loading manual guys would cringe! I use the ranch dog 75 grain bullet! loaded to the proper air space in the case not the COL! They are hot ...they are safe and as Michael Remy stated they are a great CC load

The first thing is that they are metric measurements, and tolerances so that doesn't always coincides with Imperial measurements. If you want to try the difference look for S&B or Fiocchi 73 grains bullet ammo. They will deliver about 950 f/s from a 3.5 inch barrel.

The AMT Lightning in .22 mag. They didn't stick around long but sold well when available. Had some feeding problems.
