The Reloading Component Draught, When Will It Rain Again.

I hear what you are saying. But, there are just so many newbies buying at these prices. They aren’t gonna stop.

In all honesty I’m still very new to buying components. I just got lucky, listened to what I heard people saying on the boards and doubled down on powder and primers early last year. Missed all the primer craziness by about a month or two.

What I will say is that an 8 pounder of Ramshot Hunter for $202.00 don’t seem to bad these days. Hunter was probably $169.00-$189.00 a year ago. That’s still less than a 20% markup.

Things are showing up again but the scalping by the big names annoys me. I understand the supply and demand equation but that companies like Midwayusa have increased their prices by 50% on items from Lee and others just wrenches me off. The only good thing from this is that it is now easier to justify the costs of custom molds from Tom...

I don't think it's just the retailers.

I seen shot shell ammo on the shelf for the first time in months, and a few 1 lb containers of rifle powders at 37.99 today.

how's about formerly 5 dollar a box and sometimes 4.50 a box stuff up where premium stuff used to be[8+ dollars] and another companies lower tier shells another buck-buck fifty over that.
I've actually seen the premium stuff for sale cheaper.
wads? up from 10-10.50 to 12-12.99.

The only person you have control over is you.
You can chose to join a mob or you can chose to not join the mob.

Just because others are willing to pay a particular price, doesn't mean you are obilgated to join them.

But ya know, we weren't feeling sorry for anyone when they had to offer rebates to move inventory only a couple years ago.

nope.
I was spreading the word and buying what I was comfortable buying.
woulda been more, but I'm kind of accustomed to eating 1-2 times a day now.

we were talking about it a little last night at the club and I mentioned seeing a couple of 1lb. containers of rifle powder at 37-38.99 on the shelf.
one of the guy's piped up about the 200$ a jug promo the club had finally being sold, and I mentioned to him that 200 put the formerly 140$ a jug powder squarely at 25$ a pound.
he was like when you put it that way it doesn't sound so ridiculous now.
I was like yeah,,, why do you think I bought it?

one of the things I got word on recently was stuff being shipped around the world is all being tied up at the ports, and stuff in the states is having issues being trucked.
I don't understand the trucking situation so much, since being cooped up by yourself all day is a pretty low risk way to spend your pandemic.
your only contact is at a fuel station and at the loading docks.

Fiver,
I think the trucking situation is more about trucking Companies finding enough employees ...just my guess, seems that's the story for most employers these days.

Back to the original topic at hand...

I have a friend that's eager to buy some 22LR ammo, he has no patience. I quoted him a price for a spare case (5000) of CCI blazer I have laying around...He baulked at my price, which is just the lowest price found by ammoseek.com of In-stock product of online sellers.

I told him I hear reports of people finding small quantities of non-inflated price ammo, here and there, if they are at the right place at the right time...but if you want it now, and don't want to play the time-wasting search game...the price is higher. I just want a replacement price, if I need to order another case.

Like all the other times this has happened the panic buying will end one year after the democrats are out of the White House.
I stocked up big in Trumps 2ond year when free shipping and no hazardous materials fee were common.

POPPER,
I made some 10MM snake shot from cardboard wads cut from Ritz Cracker boxes, #12 shot and 2.5 grains of Red Dot.
Flair a case mouth. Cut the wads.
In goes the powder. Then a wad, shot and overshot wad.
A heavy crimp keeps it in place.
They worked really well.
If u need some 45 Colt brass, let me know.

I can state with utmost certainty that, in the last 25-years, that quantity of primers is the sum total of what I've seen stocked locally.

Those of you who live in areas that have local gun stores, and gun stores that stock reloading supplies and equipment are very fortunate.

LGS near to Rick, Winelover and myself has next to nothing in the way of reloading components. Picked up the new pistol there a couple of weeks ago (FFL transfer) and no reloading supplies that I could see and when I asked if he had any 45 ACP ammo, he said, "you're not buying your gun from me, so, no".

It’s hard to support a guy with an attitude like that!

My shooting buddy has been using a local guy who does transfers for $20.00 bucks. He isn’t making any money on this. He does this as a public service to help folks acquire firearms at a reasonable price.

Wow, what an ass.
He won’t be selling you guns in the future either I bet.

Look at it from the owners perspective. He's getting very few guns to sell, he's getting even less ammo & reloading supplies to sell. Makes perfect sense that he would/should take care of his customers first with what he does have.

My local shop put me on a "first chance" list to get 1000 small pistol primers at 10% mark up, from whatever their whole sale price is.
I was # 95 I am now # 42 .......so just patiently waiting.

That guy would never see another penny of my money.

Seems it would be more than a little difficult to keep his doors open, cutting his nose off to spite his face.
