The wonderful Lee 429-214-SWC

Have used many different .44 Caliber bullet molds over the years in my .44Spl/Magnum pistols. Over the past few years I've been shooting more .44 Spl & .44 Medium Magnum loads. I have found no better bullet to use than the Lee 429-214-SWC in both the Specials & Medium Magnum loads. When the powder shortage hit, I could only find Hodgdon Titewad powder; there was no Bullseye, W-231, Red Dot to be had. I settled on 5.0 grains in the .44 Spl and 6.5 Grains in the .44 Medium Magnum. In the .44 Spl I was getting 880 FPS/ 1,000+ FPS in the .44 Magnum using the Lee bullet. Accuracy was very good and the lighter recoil made these loads quite pleasant to shoot. Was wondering what others who have tried this bullet think of it?

ain't tried the bullet but that number seems to mimic the 429215 number lyman uses, only without the gas check.

however I have shot quite a bit of titewad.
kind of a mis-named product if there ever was one.
except I'm pretty sure I did pay less for a jug of powder.. about the same as I paid for promo now that i think of it.
but then again the loads were pretty much the same or slightly higher with the titewad so I really wasn't being a titewad.
maybe they should change the name to sorta thrifty-ish.

Yes, it is quite similar to the 429214.

I just looked it up---8 Lbs Promo @ $136/ 8 Lbs Titewad $128.72. Titewad is fluffier than Promo and meters superbly. With both one needs to be careful not to double charge; just like you'd do if you used Bullseye or AA # 2. Also, one should not be tempted to up the powder charge to for a higher velocity as it will pressure spike on you.

I got one of those molds, it came with a box of 44-40 stuff from a guy at a gunshow. I cast with my mold once, and it cast small, surely the small size (whatever it was, I don't recall exactly?) was fine for 44-40, but it was too small for my 44 mag ammo that I wanted to load.

I believe Lee discontinued that one, correct? Seems like a good bullet. I've been shooting a lot of the 429215, I might have to give Titewad a try.

I must have been mistaken. I know at one time, they offered a full wadcutter in .44, maybe that was the one I was thinking.

I may still have it, a single cavity one. Got it at a gun show and it seems I remember it dropped on the small side and didn't really shoot that well. I may have to dig it out and mess with it some more, I like wadcutters generally.
