Time to set this bad boy up

I just picked up this TWS EL-1440 for a steal. Time to get it in the shop and start making chips. Never messed with one of these before. But it seems to be a copy of a Clausing lathe.2993.jpeg2997.jpeg

It needs a cleaning and a rundown of its parts, but I paid about a dollar a pound for it. It was hooked up and I saw it run before loading on the trailer.

I see a bunch of smithing projects in my future

You will be doing many other things with it, not just smithing. Over the years I have found more use for my machines than I ever thought I would.

Good score! Does look similar to my Clausing-Colchester. Looks like you got a three and four jaw with it.

I hope you have a copy of a forklift there it looks heavy.
I have a tractor, it lifted it good enough and set it in the garage. That part I didn't think through very well. It took 7 guys to get it on the trailer.

Heavy, heavy! Looks good. Hope it all works properly, that is a nice
looking machine.

Lathes are very useful tools.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I trained on a similar lathe, a Leblond. Heavy American Iron. Good stuff. Wish I could stumble onto one, I'm still abusing my little Atlas 6" on stuff that way too big for it. Good on you!
