Tip of the day

I thought I'd start a tip of the day thread. Since this is in general discussions, it does not have to be about cast bullets. Just little tips that help to make things easier, solve problems etc.

So, I'll start this off with this one. This problem only comes around once in a great while and is normally associated with getting a new windshield in your vehicle. In NYS the registration also goes on the windshield next to the inspection sticker and it is not intended to be removed and reinstalled. Safelite did a decent job of getting it off without destroying it when they replaced my windshield this week. But the adhesive was pretty well gone and it did not want to stay put. I thought thin double-faced tape would work, but could not find a roll in the house. So, I put it back on with a glue stick. For those of you not familiar, this is a giant chapstick with rub on glue used for joining papers and crafts. We always had it in the office and I've used it for a bunch of stuff. I ran the glue stick around the periphery of the registration which is where the original adhesive was, and put on the windshield. Presto, looks like it had never been removed. I got mine at Staples, but I'm sure places like Walmart sells them in the stationary section. Only needs to survive until December. And if it gets loose, I'll just do it again. But, I have used glue stick glue to put fake ADT security labels on all my windows as a deterrent. They stayed on for years.

A small amount of Motor Mica or Midway Mica placed in a clean plastic container with cast boolits that have either Lee liquid Alox or conventional lubes and then tumbled by hand will remove the tackiness of the lubes. Be sure to use a tight fitting lid on the container.

never send the fat guy for donuts.
I've always been the "runner" for Chinese takeout with a certain group of friends. No one has ever said anything, when I always come back with one package short of fried chicken wings, LOL.

I've mentioned this many times before, but since we have a thread now...

If any of you guys have a County household hazardous waste site "free room" (AKA: freecycle) near the typical route you use to run errands and/or go shopping, be sure to visit that place regularly. I do. Most times, I get skunked. Some times I have a great score.
Last Weeks Score:
1 gallon Coleman white gas (sealed)
1 quart can of turpentine (half full)
2 quarts marine lower unit lube (sealed) (AKA: 80-90 gear lube)
a partial can of Seafoam
a real old can of starting fluid (full)

My County limits this to 3 items per visit...so yeah, I made two visits an hour apart, LOL.

"OK, OK, I'm going as fast as I don't want to go!"
Don't run with scissors.

Wait, all you guys know that one.

How about this: quickly dispose of old foul smelling powder lest you find half a shop when you come home.

Disassemble things with small/spring parts inside a clear plastic garbage bag.
especially if your taking apart or attempting to assemble a winchester 12 or 1300 bolt.
thankfully you can still get those springs and little washers.

pro tip.
both of them will launch 10 feet and shoot through the paper on wall insulation embedding itself in the fiberglass.
double up or clear tape the bag for extra strength.
