Home owners Association and good do not belong in the same sentence, just can't possibly go together. The very concept of someone else dictating to me every aspect of my home and property is beyond comprehension.

I would get along with a HOA for just about an hour before I ended up in jail.
Having met Rick I think he is being overly optimistic. I would go with 5 min tops. John wouldn’t be far behind.

Why do u assume any of us have never lived in a gated community. And your reference regarding the American Flag case proves my point. Having to go to court to fly an American Flag shows just how out of control HOAs are.
As far as the keyboard warrior comment, I know just how you feel.

My wife thinks she wants to move to some place with restrictive covenents and HOAs. That idea is DOA with me. If that's where and how you want to live more power to you. My BIL lives in av section of the city that has an HOA so I hear first hand the good and the bad of HOAs. When they work right they're fine, when they don't you're screwed. No thanks. (I also WILL NOT live in an apartment or duplex or condo, too damn many people too close getting in my way. I'm not a hive dweller.)

I don't need to live in a gated community to form an "expert opinion" to detest HOAs, anymore than I need to go to jail to form the "expert opinion" that I don't want to be there either. Not sure what Bedford Sty has to do with anything.

I used to think the same way about golf. Called it "cow pasture pool".
Then my boss got me to play and it's a lot of fun.
Outdoors, good friends, friendly competiton. I play with my brother and a couple of good friends. Just friends doing something outdoors where we can joke and harass each other
Most of the courses are in the city, so no hunting or shooting anyway, so not using valuable hunting land. Actually, most are improved flood plain acreage.
Like they say, the two things you don't have to be good at to enjoy are sex and golf!
If you think anyone who plays golf is beyond help, why did you pay a premium to buy a home that backs up to a golf course?

No, the golf course is owned by the city. The smart developer bought up all the land around it and built the community. We do get a big discount should we wish to play. So we have the view, the nice breezes and even the chances to learn new words from the golfers who miss their easy putts. Most of Key West is very tightly built up, noisy and breeze-less. In Old Town you can pay a million for an old cigar makers house, with hardly room to swing a cat and get to enjoy homeless sleeping on your porch and drunken cruise ship tourists barfing on your sidewalk. It was "quaint" 20 years ago but now, like most "quaint" places, the local bubbas want to make KW another Miami Beach. Too many people with too few manners in town for a day. Should you come to visit avoid Duval street and Sloppy Joe's.

Hope I didn't committ a faux pas by admitting I play golf.
Has my status on the forum been permently and irrevocably damaged?
Can I redeem myself by shooting all of my golf balls with cast bullets from a suppressed 300BLK in my back yard?
Hahaha!

Was 48 here yesterday, froze again last night, 50 today, and forecast for freezing rain or snow mid next week. I’ve had enough of summer already, let it snow.

I enjoy golf. I don't play as much as I used to when the old man was alive. As far as being beyond help? That's pretty funny coming from someone who is willing to pay a group of people to live someplace "special"
Trade winds or not.

Yikes! I meant to post that on "What are you doing today?" thread.

Could a moderator please clean up my mess? :embarrassed:

I don't mind a bit of thread drift but this is way out of line. Sorry.
