Too much spare time

What happens when you combine too much spare time, a lathe looking for work, and a need for a new sprue whacker?
Over engineering happens.

I had a concept in mind and it worked out about how I planned.

I made the handle first then the shank. For a few operations I used the shank as a mandrel to perform operations on the handle without marring the knurl.
I was pretty happy with how true the handle spins when threaded onto the shank. Straight threads are not always the easier for me.
The parts.

Partially assembled.

Complete assembly. Well, almost. I need a pan head screw for an Allen wrench to put in the hole in the end. That will let me snug it all down and place a little preload on the delrin sleeve. I made the sleeve about .015 longer than the inner support so I can add the preload.

Thanks Ian and Ric.
The handle is largely hollow or else it would weigh 3 pounds!
No bullet will remain stuck for long when this gets involved.

If I get fatigued I can just cut off a hunk of 1" delrin and call it good. Where is the fun in that?

I may just make a brass/delrin faced non marring hammer for Lord knows what purpose. Because I can?

Couldn't have said it better Rick.

Better yet I can see how this works and make a Mk II version if needed.

I would like moulds that don't need beater outering but some are just cantankerous.

Pretty. I need a wrench/hammer for my minimill, will be making it. I had a
very similar aluminum handle in mind. Nicely done, sir.

That handle is actually 12L14. It is what I had on hand of the size I wanted. It is 15/16" exterior with a 5/8" hole 3-4 of the way thru. I had to leave some meat on the top for the shaft to thread into.

I need to order some 1" 6061 to make another with a lighter handle. Could have turned down the 1.5" stock I have but that makes a mess with all the Al swarf. Long stringy stuff that is.

Too bad we're not just a few miles closer to each other. I have four 10" lengths of 1" dia. 6061 T6 sittin' in one of my raw-stock boxes.
