Tumbling Cast bullets . . .

Oh, you got corrosion too.
Yeah, wet tumbling is probably a real good solution...right next to melting them, LOL

Personally, when it comes to bullets that are sub par or need cleaning... my rule is to answer this question.

Do I want to waste a primer on this bullet?

if it seems like they will do what I want, i will proceed and use a primer on it. If they are likey to shoot like poop, I don't waste a primer and melt them down.

Stupid phone, why on earth did it change the title to "Castro" when I posted??

I'm going to go WAAAAY out on a limb here,....;)

If you're using an Android phone, you may as well be sleeping with Google's sister - and they share EVERYTHING.

Somewhere, out there in the ether, is an objective, machine-generated profile of who you are, built based on the sites you visit.

Given how the people who would create such a thing seem to think, you are probably being labeled as a budding, radical revolutionary.

A radical revolutionary is most likely researching or sharing about another radical revolutionary, so when you typed "cast," the algorithms created by those who spawned "big data" and nurture "artificial intelligence" assume you just forgot to finish the word while engaging in discussion about another famous radical revolutionary - Castro.

It all adds up!;)

Squibb ran with or in association with Pope . I want to say the 280473 , that pointy 270 130 gr bullet with the extra long gas check shank is a Squibb design . If memory serves there were 270 ,7mm and 30 cal versions of the same bullet .

You guys have expensive taste when it comes to solvents. I’ve got a few gallons of old mower gasoline that is slowing getting used up for cleaning bicycle chains. It’ll dissolve bullet lube also. And it’s basically free, it’s so old I ain’t ever gonna run it in any of my mowers.
Welcome back guy!

I was thinking along the same lines. Coleman fuel is basically good quality unleaded gas without any additives. A gallon of Coleman brand fuel may be somewhat "purer" but for a cleaning agent, I'd just use pump stuff.

Been running my Coleman lanterns and stoves on pump gas forever, non- ethanol though.

You guys are too funny!

I like the word squibb!
That bullet design was actually named after it's designer IIRC. Not to be confused with a "squib" round that only partially burns and gets lodged in the barrel!

ETA- And RB beat me to it. Really need to read to the end of a thread before commenting. But, that's another thing that will never happen...

It never would have occured to me to put cast bullets in a tumbler. Interesting that it worked out, just seems boiling or some kind of liquid solvent would work a lot better.

I wouldn't put cast bullets in a tumbler, unless you like rounded bands. Look closely at the pictures. If those were commercial cast, softer alloys would be far worse. Probably, OK for close range handgun rounds but like someone said earlier: Why waste a primer!

I was gifted a box with several hundred 158 gr. FN bullets some time back, but a good portion of the lube had melted or flaked off. I had though about just melting them down, but decided to see if I could remove the old lube and PC them. I ended up just putting them in a pot and boiling them twice for good measure and giving them a acetone wash before powder coating. They turned out great with no coating issue.

If I recall correctly, Coleman fuel is naphtha. That was the original solvent for dry cleaning clothes. Not really gasoline.

ain’t got time for cleaning bullets, --- if nothing else, just tumble with BLL and shoot. I boiled some with the crayon lube, it came off OK but finally just melted them as they were undersized anyway.
