We need to make space in the garage for the new windows that will be installed soon. That meant moving some lead that was in various “storage devices” which included the floor.
Moved the range scrap ingots to the 2 bi s under the casting bench and the harder stuff to a milk crate next to the bench.
Did some rough math and assumed a 60-70% fill of available volume. That lead me to calculate that all told I have roughly a ton of lead in ingots. I still have 125 pounds of pure lead blocks, about 150 pounds of monotype pieces, and 2 full 5 gallon buckets of range scrap to melt down.
My wife was not impressed with the results of my calculations.

I gots some casting to do!

Can’t have windows getting stolen. They will be there for only a short time, a week or two until installed. A couple new exterior doors too.

Now the lead, that can’t be outside cause it can’t get wet.

Yeah, dam them window thieves anyways. Can't be having oxidizing lead though.

So . . . Why aren't the window installers bringing the windows with them so Brad doesn't need to store them?

I'm lead poor. At last count maybe only 1100-1300lbs. Time to start scrounging.

They are being delivered here and stored onsite until install. Actually a benefit to me as it requires some cleaning of the garage.

Come on down, our berms are pretty full. Stay a few days and you could take home a few hundred pounds easily.

Yeah, mine holds down the slab in the middle of the house.

So what's up with the windows? Seals failing or just an upgrade?

An upgrade. We are replacing the crappy pressboard siding and figured this is the time to do the windows too. Front door does leak like a sieve around the edges.
Hate spending the money but the house will be home for quite some time to come so it is worth it.

It was meant in a brotherly fashion?

Anyone with 500+ pounds and a reliable source is likely in good shape.

I think that with a couple shovels, a good water source, and a small cement mixer I could get a few tons from the berms at the range in a day. Of course the club might object.

I scrounged and hoarded lead wheel weights prior to the ban, so have enough ingots to last for a long time. Local range berm mining is a no-no.

If we only had sand berms down on the lower pistol bays. Quickly sifting would be a joy. I have a truck mounted 100 gallon water tank with pumps to clear it quickly and a 3 sack concrete mixer. Maybe you should set it up..o_O

Please make certain your wife is aware, I can make enough room in your garage for her to actually park her vehicle in about 4 hours at no charge. I doubt you'll ever make her that mad but...:p

that's the good thing about lead and wives, they can get mad as they want,
1- 2 minutes of attempted lead bucket chucking and they are calmed right back down again.
